Does it allow player created enemies? I haven't tried STO but this might pull me in.

@Heraclea Yes and no. You get a large subset of the tools that are used to create bridge officers for creating heads and faces, and all of the player costume parts for creating costumes. But they are just that: costumes, that you put "over" existing non-player characters. So you can create any alien species you like, but they're limited to (for example, not exhaustive list) the weapons and fighting style of the Romulan ensign or Klingon captain or Orion lieutenant or whatever you put the costume "on" in the mission editor.

Interesting... almost makes me want to try STO and see if Cryptic handled this better than City of Heroe's AE(xploit) system.

I sincerely hope so. (Then again, they could hardly do worse. "As bad," maybe.)

So awesome :) Now, we get to pay for the privilege of making our own content to play, does this come with a paycheck or a royalty check for a cut of every penny cryptic makes when someone plays that which WE create? Didn't think so.

@Severius Why not go play something else mate. The foundry allows for unprecedented levels of customization and design that players have never had before.

Cryptic will still be releasing content on a regular basis and this tool allows us to fulfill a lot of nerdy ideas to create our own STO missions as well.

@Severius

No need to be quite so whiney there. These guys put a lot of work into creating tools that us common folk can use and in turn it will allow creation of new content that we can play and for those that like creating stuff can do that too! To me this is a win win situation for both sides.

@Severius Look at Little Big Planet for instance (ok, its not a mmo but a game as well). You have level creator there as well, and nobody cry about "omg omg I paid for this game only to be able to make content for myself"? (yes, I know in mmo/STO you pay monthly sub, but who knows maybe Cryptic will award best authors of mission with some bonus? who knows...)

GJ, even if I'm not playing STO I'm interested how it will work out :)

At first I wasn't too keen on the idea, thanks to CoH's Architect System turning into little more than a farming system for lazy players, but when I heard about branching story paths and the flexibility of the system, well, it sounds like a fanboy's dream come true.

I hope we'll get to see some truly excellent Star Trek fan stories from this. At the very least, this is a good way for players to play through new content while Cryptic works on the game.

Having experienced some of the missions created on Tribble (test server) the tool set allows for some amazing missions.

The potential with this system is....infinite.

The guys at Cryptic created a simple to learn (once you understand the logic) and incredibly versatile UGC tool in The Foundry. Some of the missions that have been in the test server have been better than anything the game offers, with the exception of the Featured Episodes.

I, for one, am going to create nothing but Klingon content to make up for the small amount they get from Cryptic. And it's going to blow your mind.

This is a win for everyone involved, the players and the company. Now this is innovation at work. Cryptic should be praised for this, and I'm not a fanboy. If it were any other company I would say the same thing. More games need to have this ability. Or do they dare?

Sounds like STO subscribers are paying to test out the dungeon/map creation tool for Neverwinter Nights.

This. They'll just re-skin it for DnD (juts like they re-skinned STO from Champions Online) and bam! profit.

Somebody should make a mission where bad guys steal Spock's brain and you have to remote control him to defeat the boss and reclaim it.

How about a mission where you boldly transport a bunch of space hippies to a planet with toxic vegetation?
