I've done the same thing. You can literally see for miles in RIFT with all settings maxed, and it really is beautiful.

This is much like life....you must risk it all sometimes to see the beauty of it all. The loss of your life in this instance..was well worth it. Beautiful shot!

There are some nice things to see in Rift. But..There are some pretty dull ones as well...Scarwood Reach...Droughtlands.. Actually, I just hate these types of areas. I know these areas in MMOs are supposed to be "dead" but come on..You can still impress with death..

Rift also rewards you for seeking out sights such as this. I've found a ridiculous number of artifacts in out of the way places. I've also found a couple cairns that rewarded me with character-appropriate blue quality gear.

This is actually one of the reasons I've come to increasingly favor Rift over WoW. The former rewards exploration. WoW, however -- especially with Cataclysm -- has streamlined everything to death until there's now really no reason to go anyplace other than where the quest givers send you.

Rift also began rewarding players this weekend with massive lag spikes and disconnections every 3 to 5 minutes. It'd be great for me to be able to climb a mountain like that for the view but suddenly myself and the several hundred other players complaining in the forums over this ongoing issue (to no avail, by the way, no response whatsoever from Trion over this which is why I'm posting this here) can't stay logged in long enough to even get on a mount... come on Trion, stop reading all these "rave reviews" and fix your damn game already!

The way you describe it makes it sound as if the game is unplayable for a lot of players which is not true.May be it's on your side or your ISP.I'm in a guild which has 400+ players in Rift split on 3 servers and none of them is having the issue you describe.I'm on Wolfsbane(140+ players) which is one of the most busy shard and still no complaint.

Sorry to hear you had issues. Personally, I've had no major lag issues in the game since headstart, and I've been playing almost every day. So I don't think your problem is universal.

Not to mention rewarding players with patch 1.1 that will render many specs of both the rogue and warrior callings absolutely worthless.

As someone early one wrote, "the only thing that will cause Trion to fail is Trion."

Well it's failed my test - cancelled and moving on.

I'm calling B.S. on this. The 1.1 changes will not make anything "useless."

Trion's intent seems to be that they do not want this game turning into one where you just need to spam one skill to win, and most of the changes we see in 1.1 are completely in line with this philosophy. They are attempting to slow down progression and limit OP group healing. For example, many group-related heals are being limited in the amount of targets they effect for many souls because Trion doesn't want people just spamming group heals mindlessly.

Read the patch notes again and you'll see that it isn't just bards impacted by these types of changes.

As far as warriors go, if you feel that they are not completely OP in Warfronts right now, you are delusional.

I see the pitchforks and torches are out in the hands of WoW players again and have decided to turn this in to a "Why I Hate Rift" blog.

Yep, it's fun to climb the peaks... there is a quest line that awards a feather trinket to reduce falling damage for 20secs, keep it handy when you jump around up there. The zone puzzles are great stuff too, if you have not found at least one, do it, it can reward you with an epic... or blue, or crap green... but it IS fun LOL

@(Unverified) I like your assumption that anyone who has anything negative to say about Rift is a WoW player. Keep up the "good" work.

Odd, given the only comment mentioning WoW was from someone who said they were *favouring* Rift.

As for the people that can't handle nerfs: good riddance and good luck finding a MMO that doesn't nerf classes every now and then.

@Gaugamela Rift made a lot of souls completely useless, the devs simply have no idea what they are doing.

@paterah

Please provide me a list of the "completely useless" souls. While I'm sure there is a lot of fine tuning still necessary given the game's young age, and that FOTMers will always only want to play the most OP class, there are a lot of interesting things I've seen people be able to do with various combinations.

My attempts at finding the exact spot to leap off a cliff into Granite Falls for an achievement must have led to endless amusement below. (Until I finally got tired repeating the climb and checked a third party website.)

I've yet to see people falling out of the sky and splatting in front of me though. Maybe my server is full of website-reading Achievers and not enough see-the-sights Explorers. :(

@Rialle

I think paterah is refering to Rogues who where royallyscrewed in this patch.
However, he seems to have overlooked that this patch also brought some much needed improvements to the Mage class and the nerfs to the Warriors were fairly reasonable.

As for the devs having no idea, I just have to laugh at that comment.
Much more experienced companies did much worse things in a balancing patch than Trion did.
And one of the devs even stated that these changes aren't set in stone and will probably be looked upon in the future.
