I was hoping for a lot more information from this weekend about Dust 514. At least the 'future vision' trailer shows Dust 514 is still part of their plan.

I can hardly wait for the new nebulae and turret graphics, especially if it's true that we can actually physically inhabit the space *within* the nebulae instead of it just being a background image like it is now.

This stuff is like angel food cake to an eye-candy whore like myself...

It is clear that EVE is aiming to become the first Megagame , 3 games in 1 in one persistent universe.

Now only two questions remain

- Will they make DUST playable on PC.

-And will there be action element in "Walking on stations" ( because the trailer shows person being killed on station)

@Lobotomist 3 games? I don't entirely follow EVE so I'm a little unsure as to what the third game is. Dust 514, EVE and what is the third?

@Lobotomist - Dust 514 is console only. CCP stated that earlier today in brief a Q&A sessions. That's one of the few facts we do know about Dust 514.

@Lobotomist Also walking in stations won't have any "action" elements like shooting and the likes. That was simply for pure cinematic purposes.

Well than , its a shame.

Third game would be a "Station game" mostly RP but with some combat elements.

Second would be shooter like planetside for PC , so that all 3 games would be playable from one machine.

It would be great plan.

But they obviously have something else in mind.

@Lobotomist They'll never release it on PC. A mouse is more accurate than dual analog sticks so anyone playing on PC would have an unfair advantage (that's why most console shooters have an aim assist system.) I assume that's the reason they won't; they've said over and over it'll never be released to PC but they haven't told anyone why. I would like to play on my PC too but I applaud their fairness in this case.

@ClashM

I don't know simply being able to aim better on a PC then on a console doesn't seem like nearly a good enough reason they wouldn't release it on PC and possible lose out on a fair amount of possible sales.
More likely they made some sort of deal with Microsoft and/or Sony, probably some development assistance. Might also be because of piracy fears in which case they're no removing a PC version all together but rather delaying it allowing the console person to generate some profit (a trend with some multi-platform releases).

@ClashM

You are right in that having cross platform game sessions would be inappropriate as PC users will have an advantage.

And you are right, in that as of now they've only announced plans for making a console game.

However, their is one compelling thing to note, and it is the reason i believe a PC version will be realized eventually.... Developer networks at Microsoft and Sony are particularly troubling for support post release in a capacity that I believe CCP would need to in order to pull a project like Dust off.

Update and Patch limitations are extremely problematic for xbox more than sony, and to push a new update through compliance testing can take weeks and have to conform to specific standards etc. "Hotpatching" on the reg will not be likely, and actually pipeing new content, non code changes has to be bundled up in DLC packages.... these DLC packages, Microsoft doesn't like to give out for free, and will likely cost money etc. Basiclly, console shooters that have MMO hooks is unprecedented, and will surely be complex. The majority of these complexities would be easily circumvented by a PC version.

My take of it? Yea at first, this will be console only, once CCP is finished with the sell in, 6 months to a year later you'll see a PC version out, with PC only servers, and from then on out the tie ins and features for Dust and Eve will flourish unabated, and could potentially be something no one's ever seen before!

When and if they ever manage to make the first trailer a realisation, you can call me interested.

Wow! Good stuff all around, but yes, there remains a lot of convincing to do that DUST will be anything more than a pipe dream (like Incarna was for years). Still, I'm hopeful.

Color me excited.

I must say though that I would much rather they release DUST514 when the next gen consoles begin to roll out(assuming they still plan to release it for consoles by then). My main reason that is very few games carried over player-bases when this gen started to shift into gear.

I am no expert or anything close to it, but it would seem like the most logical choice. I would hate for DUST to get buried just because it wasn't released at the right time.

Also, from the look of DUST, it doesn't seem like this gen could handle all their plans anyway so who knows...maybe CCP is waiting for the next cycle.

@PrimeSynergy - Waiting for the next generation of consoles would be a mistake. They are 2+ years away and then it takes another 1-2 years to build a gamer base large enough to support an MMO.

Releasing DUST 514 within the next year would be perfect. There will only be one other MMOFPS (Planetside 'Next') available for consoles. And DUST 514 will have a big advantage over Planetside 'Next' due to it's interaction with the EVE universe.

Also, the next Xbox will be backwards compatible due to AMD researching the new hardware (they developed Xbox 360 GPU as well). The Playstation may take the same path but at least CCP knows at least the next Xbox will be backward compatible.

@HokieKC

Look at the comment @Titan1 left. That sums up what I was about to say perfectly. It just doesn't make sense to come out this late in the cycle only to be forgotten when people get excited and move over to the next gen.

As of right now, there are too many established shooters for this game to truly make a compelling case and with even more coming out and a next gen maybe 2-3+ years away, this game would be buried in no time. I don't think it will be bad by any means. It's just the fact that console players have no problem jumping from one new thing to the next without even looking back.

In my mind, it just makes sense that when the next gen rolls around, everything will seem new. People will be dying for games to play. So why release it now when it could easily be buried when it could potentially be a much better success in the future?

Also, as a side note, I have no problem stating my arguments consist of mostly speculation, but it's speculation based on current and past trends. And while change is possible, I find it's better to gamble when you the odds aren't completely stacked against you.

@PrimeSynergy - DUST 514 is an MMOFPS not just an FPS. That's the major difference. There hasn't even been a MMOFPS released on consoles yet.

I would only point out console shooters and players do not have the same longevity of MMO's and players...especially I would imagine, if the PC players blow them all away in orbital bombardments on a regular basis.

The next shiny title will strip it of players. Consoles are a super competitive market.
