When speaking to this reporter outside the City of Heroes panel at PAX East, producer Nate Birkholz could not emphasize the importance of the community enough. In fact, according to a post back in January, the whole team has upped developer communication to the fans. The players of CoH really help steer this mighty superhero MMO, and the development team wishes to have as many opportunities to speak to its committed community members as possible. Next Thursday, John "Protean" Hegner and Tim "Black Scorpion" Sweeney of the development team and Andy "Zwillinger" Belford and André "Beastyle" Carlos of Paragon's community team will be on UStream to help promote the upcoming Issue 20 and answer viewer questions.
For the first time ever, Paragon Studios is opening its doors to video livestream. As an intrepid fan, you will have to watch every minute on the edge of your desk chair. On March 31st from 9:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. EDT, tune in to the official City of Heroes UStream channel to catch all the latest news from Paragon City.

CoH has managed to weather the storm of both CO and DCUO primarily due to the relationship between the players and the developers.
It's clear from the posts on the boards and in meeting the Devs in person that these people feel that they are some of the luckiest people alive gettign to work day in and day out on this game, and they say over and over again that it is due to the players.
The MMO market is always going to offer something new and different that will tempt players, but the latest flavor of the month with flashy grpahics and/or gameplay will only keep a person's attention for so long without a solid community backing it up.

@SkyStreak Part of what has helped CoH survive the competition is that it's still the only superhero MMO to offer a full, deep MMO play experience as opposed to CO's and DCUO's console-centric, action approach, the charm of which fully dulls after a few hours of play. CoH is the kind of game you can keep coming back to for hundreds of hours of play.
