No, It's really similar to the Perfect World games gameplay wise, although the UI is... umm... terrible.

I tried this, it's really bad in general.

Poor graphics, old fashion camera angle - world enviroment, not for a MMO enviroment. Ugly barely visble UI, clunky. Save your self the download time.

That was not at all the impression I got after watching Shawn Shuster's last livestream of Argo, with over an hour of gameplay including character creation, an instanced dungeon, first mount aquisition, etc. It looked pretty decent...

From appearances (not having actually played it...I'll wait for release on this one) it seemed at least the equal of other similar f2p fantasy mmorpgs already on the market and possibly superior to most in several ways.

I personally can't imagine the whole stale fantasy mmorpg genre maintaining it's current popularity for too much longer as it seems truly played out, but those who still enjoy that theme could do a lot worse than Argo. That being said, I was expecting a bit more from it as the look of it alone is the same as 20 other B-grade titles already released.

Granted it's not a next-nextgen mmorpg like ArcheAge - but that is still a couple years away so no use in comparing. Still, after seeing the upcoming triple-A titles like ArchAge it's difficult to get too exited about much else in the fantasy genre.

@Slayblaze

I'd have to agree with the unverified poster, while the gay is pretty enough it's UI and controls are very poor and the camera angles just annoyed the fudge out of me after awhile. Played it for a couple hours but it got to a point where I realised I was wasting my time because I wasn't having fun and I knew I wasn't going to stick with it.

The character creation isn't the game, it's like video game cinema clips masking as actual gamplay. There alot of conceptional art, such as the one used by this article, it's not gameplay, it's a trick. The actual game looks like it's from the end Super Nintendo era.

go look up RF online (alt title: Rising Force Online) and Neo Steam, then try to call this game original in any way, shape, or form.

@Fakeassname

Have you PLAYED either of those titles? RF Online is shit. It has to be one of my least favorites, if not the worst, on the list of MMOs I've played.

And similar setting or theme =/= direct copy.

I'm not advocating ARGO, it isn't any better than most F2P games, but that argument wasn't valid.

@fauxcivility

I don't know if calling RF online "shit" is all that accurate of a description ...

fucking monstrosity kinda fits better.

Neo Steam is a little bit better but it's dead at this point, my point was that ARGO looks just a shitty and pointless as those two.

They talk about this 'optional third person shooter' system, which I tried. It was crap. Why implement a free targeting system in your game if all it does is ultimately make the character less effective? I could just auto target and be done with it. Yeah, and the graphics/gameplay suck.
