The folks at ZeniMax Online Studios have founded a new support facility in Galway, Ireland with the intent to provide customer service for "players of future massively multiplayer online games." While some of you are probably wondering just who in the heck ZeniMax is, others have no doubt seen the parent company name scrolling by on the startup screens for Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
ZeniMax Media owns not only ZeniMax Online but also Bethesda Softworks and id Software (the brains behind the Doom franchise). ZeniMax Online is headed by Mythic co-founder Matt Firor, and ex-World of Warcraft dev Rich Barham is serving as the director of customer support. Though the studio has yet to make an official game-related announcement, it's clearly laying the foundation for something big.

When I saw this I wondered if it was relevant how Bethesda were trying to get the Interplay mmo rights since Interplay don't seem to have done much since they sold the IP to Bethesda.....perhaps they are already working on a Fallout mmo.

@FrostPaw - It's not a Fallout MMO because they don't have the rights for a Fallout MMO. You wouldn't borrow and spend tens of millions on an MMO IP you don't own.
Matt Firor (producer of Dark Age of Camelot) is the president of ZeniMax Online so expect a fantasy MMO.

And you realize that Bethesda owns the IP to the Fallout mmo and only licenses it to Interplay right?

This is exactly where SWTOr's customer support will be located.

That is correct, Bethesda aquired the Fallout IP from Interplay with the clause that Interplay would be allowed to work on a fallout mmo game. The stipulation by Bethesda was that Interplay must show progress on the fallout mmo within so many years otherwise they would break the agreement and forfeit.
Interplay so far in what?.....3-4 years has put up a one page teaser website and released a newsletter that could have been knocked up by one guy on his coffee break. Hence Bethesda making legal action to recover the license.
Since Bethesda own the Fallout IP it is conceivable they began working on an mmo project a while ago since there would be no need to buy a customer service department for the first couple of years development because you don't offer customer support when you have no customers.
Considering Elder Scrolls Skyrim is the next Bethesda game and there is such a glut of fantasy games in the mmo market I have a hard time believing they would be making a fantasy mmo to be honest.

I believe this is the studio where Floyd Grubb, formerly of Paragon Studios, ended up. ZeniMax got themselves one great dev in the Grubbster!
