I'm a huge Star Wars fan and the game looks entertaining but it simply doesn't look like Star Wars to me. Take away the lightsabers, Yoda and the Old Republic flags that are all over the place in the background and you could be in any generic sci-fi universe.

They may have gone too far with the 'stylized' character models/animations.

Idk about you but the thing that feels the least like star wars to me is the jedi hanging in the back throwing heals like some cleric in a dungeons and dragons game from which the whole fantasy genre of games is based on. It's so ridiculous I could write a book about it. I don't remember any jedi anywhere in any star wars movie throwing heals like a frickin fantasy priest.

Why didn't Obi-Wan just do a "lay on hands" on ol' Qui-Gon and fix him right up? How about a resurrection spell? It just makes me laugh... jedi healers *eyeroll*

I just can't leave this one alone. What about Anakin's whole storyline? He get's so bent out of shape that he doesn't have the power to stop death with the force.. its basically the major plot line of the whole series and what causes his whole descent into being an angry darksider, mad at the world... HE CANT HEAL PEOPLE. pfft jedi healers...ridiculous

I literally don't know what to say about a comment like this. What would make it look more Star Warsy to you?

@cyb3rpunk75 - Another good example. The ability to heal was a Sith lie not a reality in the Star Ware universe.

@cyb3rpunk75 ....except the Jedi wasn't really healing much so no idea what you guys are carrying on about. I didn't notice either of the Jedis healing even once during the fight but maybe I missed something. That was the SMUGGLER healing via his droid buddy using meds on people.
This isn't the Star Wars movie, this is a game based on that universe. In the movies if you get hit once with blaster in the chest, you fall over. You get hit once with a lightsaber, you're dead or permanently maimed. Obviously this isn't going to work with a video game so if that's going to bother you, then DON'T PLAY THE GAME. I think they're doing a good job and it felt perfectly Star Warsey to me.

Take away the lightsabers, yoda, and old republic flag and it's just another fantasy mmo with the same mechanics. Sad really....

I won't be playing this game I'll be playing Guild Wars 2, not feeding the subscription business model that everyone wants to cash in on.

@JoeH42 - It's a valid point. There was no such thing as a 'Jedi Healer' in Star Wars lore until Bioware needed one for their MMO and made it up.

Healing via the Force actually has a long tradition in the universe, starting with a brief example in A New Hope and several other examples throughout the expanded universe. It's come up most frequently in video games, but Jedi (and Sith) both possess several examples of characters capable of healing.

(Good reference: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Force_healing )

And yes, in our run, the Smuggler was the healer via droids.

@Eliot Lefebvre - If force healing was so prevalent in the Star Wars universe than Anakin would have just forced healed Padme and Luke would have force healed Darth Vader at the end of ROTJ.

In Bioware's 'Star Wars' universe there are apparently smuggler force healers running around.

What you;re basically saying is that Star Wars doesn't lend itself for translation into an MMORPG, only for an MMOFPS.

Since it has been made into an MMORPG, it's hard to complain about mechanics that are inherent to the genre.

Also, I'd advise you to play KOTOR and KOTOR2 and regard healing again then, since SWTOR basically builds further upon the world of Star Wars as seen and played in the KOTOR series.

It's called "Lucas doesn't have any real idea how to sustain background elements in relationship to a movie script".

While you are not the only slave to how things are presented/interpreted in ANY IP, many fans argue too much over the details. Really, Star Wars is the LAST IP to pay attention to their own details.

You can either accept that Kenobi was an analogy to a traditional "wizard" back in the first movie and don't be too bogged down he didn't cast "magic missle" at everything or even point out his duel with Darth Vader in the first movie was more Kendo than "Fancy Errol Flynn Stuntman Spectacular w/ CGI" than later movies.

In the end, this doesn't really matter to this game or even to Lucas.

The only reason that these mechanics are "inherent to the genre" are because developers keep propagating them instead of trying things that would be more enjoyable. I was just reading another blog today on this site titled something like should we get rid of the holy trinity or something to that effect and basically this is what this all boils down to, the tank-healer-dps mechanic and forcing it upon Star Wars. This trinity mechanic doesn't lend itself well to Star Wars at all, but thats just my opinion. I don't really care for Star Wars anymore nearly as much as I did when I was a 10 year old kid. The prequels with their horrible acting, horrible scripting, and overused one-liners pretty much ruined it for me, or maybe it was my son playing the dvds a million times over. I forgot my point but have fun with this game. I'm not impressed

Where exactly in A New Hope do you see anyone healed with the force?

@cyb3rpunk75 - I agree. The tank-healer-dps 'trinity' combined with 'stylized' character models and animations just doesn't seem Star Wars to me.

If you look in ANH just after Luke was attacked by the Tuskens and Ben showed up, you'll see Ben stick his hands on Luke's forehead briefly before moving on to check out R2. By all accounts that has been stated that Obi-Wan was using a mild bit of Force Healing to stabilize Luke before he went to check on the droids.

It seems to me you never played KOTOR. A lot of the same in your eyes 'un-Star Warsy' mechanics.

Still, KOTOR is regarded as one of the best Star Wars games around.
SWTOR builds further upon the era and look & feel of KOTOR.

Why did you direct that at me? I only stated when Obi-Wan did a Force Heal in ANH, which cyb3rpunk75 asked about. I'll just assume you meant your KotOR remark to someone else in this topic. I know I sure played KotOR.
