Databases are a good thing for an MMO. When you have buckets of different items, quests, stats, enemies, bosses, and so forth, it's good to be able to reference a wide variety of different data on the fly. Wowhead is pretty much the gold standard for database services, giving World of Warcraft players the opportunity to use talent calculators, compare items, and browse a comprehensive quest database with ease. ZAM, the parent company of Wowhead, is porting that same all-encompassing database over to RIFT with today's launch of the appropriately named RIFT Database.
Although the system has just gone live, it already includes a robust listing of abilities, items, and quests for players to browse, as well as details on the various collections available in-game. Complete with a soul calculator, the new repository of knowledge should be welcome for any and all RIFT players looking for quick and easy reference. About the only thing it currently lacks is an option for integration into browser, but given time, it seems inevitable that the database will just keep improving.

Oh, good. Was wondering where I could look for the mobs that drop quests at for some of these achievements. Doing the Gloamwood Trophy Hunter now and I'm down to 2. Time to look it up.

Ehh... I'm really missing the days before data mining : (
And you really can't say "then just don't use it", because everyone else is using it, and they will be gauging your worth based on it.
Please, please, please, no cross realm LFD or GS.
Cross Realm BG's are bad enough.
The way to fix it is easy too. Trion should just supply a website that shows average queue times at various times of the day per server, it's not like they aren't collecting that data anyway so it'd just be a display. Then allow people to free xfer one toon with a 60-90 day cooldown. If they want to xfer more toons in that time frame, then charge the additional fee. Or whatever, keep the $15 fee "average", just do the rest of it. Servers would naturally balance out as players who really cared about their BG queues would shift towards servers with either a shorter queue or a more organized PvP group. Same with LFD, show an average time wait for LFD and keep it server based.
The sense of community on a server is completely gone from WoW. Blizzard has said they're trying to make their game social etc. etc. but then they ignore this fundamental aspect of their MMO that they've been deteriorating for years. That wouldn't be completely bad if they didn't have so many road blocks out there in getting all your friends on the same server, or LFD allowing you to group up specifically with your friends on other servers, or many other issues.
Blizzard has forgotten the difference between a population and a community, and it's, imo, the biggest problem with WoW right now.

Meh they don't seem to have locations for things like artifacts so I don't think it's as bad as wowheads database for example.

@ManaByte this can also be said about guild launch.....I trust Zam more then guild launch though
All that being said. I heard that Trion is talking with authenticatior peeps. With as fast as Trion moves I wouldn't be surprised if I had one in my hand by April.

WoW Insider is running another story about the company Affinity Media, owners of Wowhead, which was purchased by the infamous gold selling company IGE a little while back. After the acquisition, an interview with Affinity's CEO suggested the relationship was no longer existent, and although many doubted his words at the time, no one could prove it. Wowhead has often been advertised as the one database site owned by fans, not gold sellers. However due to recent litigation being brought before IGE, Affinity Media's relationship once again surfaces. What does this mean? This means all three database sites - Thottbot, Allakhazam and Wowhead - are indeed owned by gold sellers. - article on Curse, http://wow.curse.com/articles/wow-en-previews/31331.aspx

Not a fan of ZAM at all. They got all butthurt when SOE didnt give them beta keys to Vanguard because they where owned by one of the biggest RMT companies out there and refused to cover anything related to vanguard.
VG ended up sucking big time but ever since all that its left a bad taste in my mouth and i avoid anything owned by them as much as possible.

Or you could just gauge your own worth and excercise free will. I'll use it as and when I feel it's in my interest to do so. So far I haven't felt the need to look up a single thing about Rift. It plays perfectly well with the information given in-game.

Seriously,
It's a database.
If your personal ethics won't permit you to use it then I feel bad for you son...

A site like WoWhead is invaluable to the average player. Many players have limited time to play, they would love to explore the whole map looking for a quest, NPC or Wardstone daily, but just can't do it.
Asking for help from other players via a database site can provide great information... is the quest bugged? Can it be solo'd? Where does a quest line begin and end? What will be the reward?
Gearing your characters is easier when you know where to start to earn the items, best-in-slot becomes important for raiding too.
Artifacts could be mapped, but spawn at such random intervals you would have to camp on it and then risk a duplicate for your time, under any circumstances artifacts are a lot of work to find, fight for, shuffle through duplicates and fill collections, and besides, the coins provide vanity pets and "toys", not gear.
Let me add this, ask any late-night-warrior-role-player, there is nothing worse (maybe no jelly beans) than being stuck on game stopper at 3am with no resources to help you to move on... we all know that sucks.
