Love the podcast, but next time can Shawn or Rubi please say the name of the games they are talking about more often than just once. Kinda hard to listen about how they like this and that and no idea what game it is.

As far as the whole GW title thing goes, people are whiners because they realized they pissed away their time doing something pointless.
Hell, I got the legendary Survivor title the hard way, but that was my choice, and so what if people have it easier now, if it makes more people play the game longer, then you should be happy.

The mercenary heroes is pretty cool I guess, even thou it's not enough to bring me back to the game.

On a side note, I am one of those mentioned 'loner' players.
I live in NZ as you know, so finding people in my own timezone just to play with can be quite difficult at times, but also a lot of the time I just want to play at my own pace.
And one of the reasons I hate how most MMO currently are is that they not only punish solo players as a large amount of content such isn't doable solo, but it also reveals just how shallow these games are where what you are doing is utter crap, and somehow doing this grindtastic garbage with people makes it suddenly fun.

No, doing anything with people can be fun, cutting yourself could be fun if your doing it with people. In reality these games are just crap games that use people as a crutch.

About Mercenary packs,

In my experience with Heroes, I've seen that you can swap out weapons with the Heroes, and adjust their skill bars.

If you're taking a level 20 character of yours and turning it into a Hero, can you ever transfer that character back (with changes) to it's original character?

Do the character-made heroes update when the character-base is changed?

a lot of "loners" have low self esteem. they're ashamed to ask questions, especially in games like wow, where old players know just about everything about the game, people might find it discouraging to join up and play with experienced players. like Shawn's example, hearing "ok, can we get a new tank in here?" can have a really bad effect on a noob.

games can be very deep, so that the vast majority can't know all aspect of the game. that makes small communities be more helpful towards noobs and answer all questions, from basics to advanced exceptions to the rule. or they can be very easy, so everyone knows it in a week...but that makes for a bad game tbh.

EVE's server technology is really the future of good MMOs: a single, multi sharded server. what freerealms and runescape have done, with the free changing of servers is nice, but people are still playing on different copies of the game. that's just an in between step, the lower cost and not as good alternative, if you ask me.

and fyi, lag in EVE is only in Jita and when there are well over 1000 players in the same system. even in jita, it's less than 1 second delay, even with 2 clients on the same non-gaming machine, which means absolutely nothing :P

Im sort of a loner in MMOs, and Im slowly having to force myself to be more social as Im realizing part of the reason I end up despising 90% of MMOs is because I needed a community. It pissed me off to think that my fun experience is dependent on anyone else. I'm a very independent (Read: Introvert) person in IRL and that carries over to games.
Because of this I dont have these connections it seems like most other MMO players have. I have about 3 IRL friends who sometimes play MMOs, but our tastes tend not to overlap. Occasionally we manage a month or so of EVE or something, but our attentions lapse.

I am VERY interested in a Xsyon tribe for massively! I have a small tribe that's slowly dying because everyone abandoned the game because of lag. As a toolmaker, my value is pretty much ONLY in serving others and exchanging for goods. I need friends D:
