20 years is just too long. For perspective, Blizzard was only founded 20 years ago, and the super nintendo as well as the web browser was released then. In terms of tech, it's almost another lifetime.

@Dblade

UO has been around nearly 14 years, so 20 years isn't that unimaginable.

@augustgrace

I don't think simply existing with a marginal playerbase (no offense UO) is part of Blizzard's business model.

Without knowing what their next mmo, is, I'll take his comments with a grain of salt.

My problem is the duplicity surrounding Titan... Blizzard is purposely contradicting itself in hopes to keep people guessing so when it is announced at Blizcon this year it will actually be a surprise, however most folks in the industry already know that the whole Original IP claim was a lie.
Titan will be World Of Sanctuary, yes technically Sanctuary is new because only recently has Blizzard placed the handful of Diablo locals in it's own world..but it's still a freaking Diablo MMO. They should have just come clean last year and saved the last Blizzcon from being such a tremendous let down.

@Dunraven Uh, I'm pretty sure that in no way would count as a new IP. If that did end up being the case, it would just be because they decided to use the Diablo IP instead at some point and scrapped the plans to put it in a new world.

This is why I hate the internet.
You can just spout of lies and when the truth comes out six months later, we've all forgotten your lies.

Correction: We've all forgotten who the liar was, so we don't remember who to make fun of.

You think WoW can hold everyone much longer? If you have been playing for 6 years....you tend to need something fresh. There is only so much more they can add to WoW to keep it fresh before fresh is really just old, recolored. Thus the reason I'm playing Rift now.

@Azzura

WoW would be able to hold ppl MUCH longer IF BLizzard actually supported the game by using the WOW SUBS to add to WOW - instead of spending it on another project. CAtaclysm is a proof they are not. Its a sloppy work of mediocer rework. It's content patches with reworked dungeons. Its Ignoring new game mecanics and systems that the 12 million subscribers deserve for the loyalty to their game. Blizzard instead desided to take big part of their creative crew and remove it from WOW - putting the game into Factory mode of same old same old.

Where is the improved custimisation part? Why are gemcutters not createing diffrent collored gems that you can put it your armor to change the look? Why are herbalisms and Inscriptors not making dyes to change the colour ? Why are there no new monster system in the game but instead we get same mobs over and over and over EXACTLY the same (maybe purple instead of brown).

Why ? Because BLIZZARD is showing their WOW subscriberbase TOTAL and UTTER lack of respect by not improving and moving WOW forward to the next level.

@Deadalon I will have to agree there - with the money we have sent them - Wow should be so much more. But again - Im WoW'd out once again but this time the new expansion didn't hold me like the previous ones. It Maybe lasted 2 months.... Maybe they shouldn't pump money into something people are getting bored with but compared to other game companies, they have the cash to make a new game and create huge content for WoW.

I'm sure it will do fine ... whatever "it" is. However, for me, SC2 and Cat were the first two Blizzard games over the past 15 years that I didn't buy. Blizzard's brand is waning and doesn't make me want to go out and blindly buy their products anymore.

Hopefully Titan is something new and interesting that reinvigorates the Blizzard brand and reinforces their ability to do something new and exciting.

I think TITAN will need to be a big leap forward in what it can offer gamers, a big chunk of WoW's success was timing that TITAN will be unlikely to have.

Blizzard certainly have the cash to invest in a ground-breaking project though & they have taken utterly justified flak for lacking originality in many aspects of game-design so a genuinely fresh IP with a new spin on Massively Multiplayer gaming that can perhaps push the genre forward is within their powers moreso than just anyone else, the test will be if they are prepared to take risks or stay in safer waters of just another reiteration of designs already done to death.

If Titan is not a cartoon, and not high fantasy, I might have a look at it.

Jef Reahard asked:

"Will WoW's 12 million subscribers jump ship and make Titan the raging success that its predecessor was?"

Well that's depending on what Titan is first. And if it's any good.

All I see for now is PR crap to re focus people's attention on Blizzard instead of Trion,Bioware and ArenaNet.

Ugh, this isn't the time for this kind of news. Maybe news about how blizz is still working hard on wow and has interesting things being added to it, instead of making the carrot further away over and over again.

Blizzard has said before that Titan would be a different MMO than WoW, for now I'll take their word for it. Knowing what they know about WoW and the direction the wind is blowing these days for MMOs, it's obvious we'll see dynamic events with the flare for story telling Bliz is known for. I just hope that they remove what's wrong with WoW for Titan, IE the loot system and spreadsheet raiding.

Past success is no guarantee of future success.

SOE learnt that with Everquest 2 and Square-Enix learnt that with FF14.
