When Final Fantasy XI first launched in North America, official forums were not ubiquitous. Some games had them, and some didn't, but their absence from the launch wasn't odd. Final Fantasy XIV's launch late last year, however, came well after an official board became standard practice. Square-Enix has moved with the times, resulting in an event that many players had likely expected to never see happen -- the official forums for both games are now open, with a welcome letter available for each.
While each forum is still considered to be in a beta state, players can log in using their Square-Enix IDs and begin posting immediately (any player of Final Fantasy XI still using a Playonline ID alone will need to get a Square-Enix ID and link the two). The shift is being accompanied by a change from game announcements being posted on the main page to postings on the forums, which should help fans of FFXI and Final Fantasy XIV more easily discuss updates and pending changes in a community atmosphere.

And SE only took 6 months after game release to launch official forums. That's even slower than FC.

I'm sorry bridge burnt, launch flop, let it die. I know it's cold, but I looked forward to this game, they didn't listen to testers at all, and the shipped product was insulting and lazy. Shoot the horse, and let it go.

Certainly an interesting shift in the paradigm-thinking of Square Soft/Enix.
First, the devs start taking player's thoughts seriously after launch, now they are finally launching forums. While we do know the majority of players don't hang or post on forums, it is a tool/voice of the community that is long overdue.
Actually, especially in FFXI's case, maybe "past due".

Such a dark screenshot. Should up the exposure and contrast a bit. If you're using NVidia card I highly recommend playing with the "Digital Vibrancy" setting.
At any rate - I think I have the same response for everything they do: Glad to see it finally happening, but wish they did it 4+ years ago.
I am quite surprised and well, happy to see the amount of traffic the FFXIV official forums has - to me despite poorly substantiated articles from less reputable sites than Massively about FFXIV's population numbers, this is a solid indicator that there's still a lot of interest and well, player hope for the game, me included.

@Chiren Do you actually need an account for the forums. Like an active ingame account? If not then who knows how many of the posters are actually paying and instead just there venting and trolling around seeing what answers if any they will have for them.

Yes - you actually need TWO accounts (this is SE we're talking about lol).
You need:
1) FFXIV account
2) Square Enix Account
So until you log in with both of your accounts, then link them together via SE account management pages, you cannot post.

i was going to do beta for FFIV, until I found out there was no forum access. That told me everything I wanted to know about the game developers and how seriously they were taking beta.
