Cautiously optimistic. I think though it's main selling point is going to be useless, as most players will spam portals since you wont find too many rivals in northern Nebraska. But it's an interesting proof of concept.

@Dblade

As I understand the population spread statistics as they relate to affluence (i.e. the people who are likely to have smartphones), I think that the majority of their market actually will be in denser urban areas. The portal gimmick will still likely end up broken/hard to balance though.

@Wild Colors @Dblade I'm a player and portals are actually quite well-balanced already: they cost a lot of energy to maintain, so please can only have one or two at a time. For instance, I'm a medium level player and one portal takes almost all my energy. Plus, players actions when they teleport are limited and leveling up only removes some of the limitations: only truly local users have the complete range of game actions.

Doesn't sound like cyberpunk (missing elements), more like sci-fi fantasy. This reminds me of some of the treasure hunter groups around, though they operate low-tech in the field at this point. It's like where you place treasure pots around, and go search for them - that others placed etc.

The drawing the magic runes thing isn't actually novel, it's been done many times before. Perhaps it's new to the iphone though?

I really like the "technomage" concept of the game. It actually has a good story explaining its existence imo, which I think is rare. It's simple, but good. IDK about the game play, it wasn't really discussed at all, but I definitely like the setting concept.

Sounds fantastic, but I am not paying for an IPhone and the service just to play it. Can they make a version for my cheap lil Straighttalk phone?

Would it work on an iPod Touch 4G? Or is the internet connection necessary?

Would've been kinda cool if you'd include info like that in an article about completely new stuff. Thanks :D
