GamersFirst shows off new APB Reloaded driving footage

News of San Paro is coming at a fast and furious clip now that APB Reloaded is officially toodling around in closed beta mode. Last week we hung out with GamersFirst at GDC and got the low-down on how the team is overhauling APB for its new free-to-play incarnation.

Over the weekend, GamersFirst uploaded a new gameplay video to its YouTube portal, and the footage offers a glimpse of the driving tweaks that producer Jon-Enee Merriex told us about at GDC. The footage focuses on the Macchina Calabria vehicle in a hair-raising romp through the streets of San Paro. While this is still a beta build, APB's driving controls already seem to be quite a bit more refined than they were at release, and there's also the requisite mayhem on display in the form of collisions (both vehicle and pedestrian) and a tiny bit of shooting at the clip's conclusion.

Looks like they tweaked ragdoll system and NPC AI.
Also alot of new textures and shaders.

That's GTA for you.

What I'd like to know is how responsive it will be when people actually get to play it live, as that was a major problem with it last time from what I hear.
But if I can play this smoothly at launch, I think they will do rather well for themselves.

@Yoh The driving is the least of your worries to be honest.

The cheating and glitches from the original had better be gone or they'll be facing the same problems. Hopefully the devs won't completely ignore the beta testers this time.

Looks to be getting a lot smoother and graphics look a bit better than I remember.

No prob's I stalk their twitter so the second it came out I though "zomgwat tip msasively" :D

@Danteeeee In exactly that punctuation and grammar.

This reminds me of Crackdown but in MMO format. I think this will be fun.

New car too, that's quite clearly an audi TT.

@ultimateq I would also like to point out that on the main website, there is a thumbnail for the "APB Reloaded Trailer", the car on that thumbnail is Subaru WRX. Which is also a new car.

I just want to know if its an mmorpg or an "GTA Online".

@Paradigm68 I would say it's closer to a Cops and Robbers Online. I does not fit in with your usual expectations of an MMORPG.

Between the two, closer to GTA, minus the narrative. More like, get the call, chase the bad guy, win or lose.

APB is more shooter than MMO. I mean look at it like this, APB is a Third Person Shooter with MMO elements (Like persistent world, and character building etc etc)

So if you hate shooters, this game isnt for you.

Forgot to add, I was in the first beta and played through retail up till the last day, and loved it. But of course I'm a big shooter fan

Looks great. Always had a good experience from GamersFirst, looking forward to this release.

So far my experience as a West coast beta tester is less than stellar...

Dear god, please let them market it as an online shooter with an interactive match-making lobby. It's not a MMO. It's a series of matches which can overlap visually, but not mechanically. (eg: You can't shoot a criminal who is blasting a fellow enforcer unless you have joined that match.)

It's basically call of duty, if call of duty took place in the one map which you could walk around when you weren't in a match.

I've never played any of their other titles, but Sword of the New World has horrible server lag.

@Snicky There was an GT-R R34 in the trailer as well as the Subaru WRX. All three of these cars, the WRX, the R34, and the Audi TT were not available in the game at the time that RTW had it released.

You can tell it's definitely not an R35, and it's not an R33 either because the brake lights vary in size, the R33 has 4 brake lights that are all the same size.

But good call. I guess they had the cars done, just never released? I can't wait to see what GamersFirst does.

I'm left wondering if there is any kind of difference between being a "cop" over the criminal because watching that cop car crash into everything and run over members of the public seemed to imply not so much....
