Since forever!

MUD's since I first went online in '97 (offline computer gaming since '83), namely Avalon and Orone among others, then The Realm, Meridian 59 and UO - briefly on each - before settling into EQ. The rest, as they say, is history and basically encompasses pretty well every MMO since '99.

Started with the matrix online transitioned into WoW and since 2005 there are very few games that got past alpha stage that i haven't at least tried to level 10.

@Killerham:
Yay, someone else mentioned Puzzle Pirates! I was in the beta, back in '03 - that was my "gateway drug." I'd done MUDs (and MUCK, MUSH, MOO, etc) back in college in '90, and as a result was slow to warm to early MMOs which seemed like more of the same, now with eye candy. I was also reluctant to pop for an ongoing subscription, preferring to buy games once and be done.

Puzzle Pirates hooked me with unconventional gameplay and charming design. I played the heck out of beta, was there to watch the servers go down, and waiting in line to give them money on launch day. And then about a year later, in the fall of '04, I finally broke down and got City of Heroes - another not-another-generic-fantasy-game that had finally emerged from years of development hell and which all of my friends were playing.

Since then I've dabbled in WoW and am currently playing STO, which at one year out is finally almost launch-ready. I barely log in to Puzzle Pirates any more, but keep my sub up (at the cheap long-time rate) just in case I feel like it sometime. And I'm still playing City of Heroes with the new friends I've made there, long after most of the old ones moved on.

A Free-To-Play game that I don't remember anymore... The game was pretty bad even then, I'd hate to go back and try it now.

Next came WoW. Didn't stick with it, but friends of mine convinced me to try it back in the Vanilla days. I didn't get into the game until Wrath of the Lich King came out.

Next was Guild Wars. The first one I actually stuck with for a decent length of time. So... This is probably the one I'd call my first MMO, despite my dabbling in others.

First that I remember was Ragnarok Online. The message board I was on at the time decided we should all get together for a guild and RO won. What year that was, I don't even remember, but RO was decently big then.

My first real MMO was Ultima Online in 1997.
Diablo before that but that wasn't a "real" MMO.

Started with Alpha of Meridian59, alpha/beta'd a bazillion things western and eastern market stuff over the million years since. If only there was something worthy... (that's the -real- EverQuest, the quest for a truly worthy game!)

I started on Meridian 59 shortly after it was released and played that, along with spending some time in The Realm, until UO was launched in 97.

Since EverQuest, unless you count MUDs and MOOs. ;)

I played Avatar on PLATO and Neverwinter Nights on AOL, but never habitually. The PLATO system game would have been around 1981-1983. It was more a MUD than an MMO.

I've been playing standard MMOs since December, 2004, which is when I began playing City of Heroes.

Depends on your definition really... First REAL MMO for me was one of the korean betas for Ragnarok Online (I still occasionally play iRO) which was I think 2001?

I started with Runescape in 2003, and whenever I log back on I still use the same character. Then I went to Knight Online (my standards for MMO quality were obviously quite low) before doing Guild Wars and vanilla WoW. Been a mixed bag since.

Since launch of The Realm Online, though I was playing MUD's before that (text based mmorpg's). Of course graphical mmo's got good when UO launched, becoming more addictive in a way. EQ back in '99 was a real interesting experience. I've played a lot of mmo's and some subs active over 5 years. Of course I'm a little bewildered by the way things are going now, but hey.

Since NA FFXI launched. Had the chance to play EQ back when it launched with friends but I didn't.

Long before UO, I was GMing and playing campaigns on local BBS systems for D&D, GURPS and Tales From the Floating Vagabond. Of course, before BBS systems were invented, I was doing it live. And before RPGs were invented... ah, never mind. And get the hell off my lawn.

As far as "true MMOs" are concerned, either EQOA on the ps2, or that shoddy korean port of Priston Tale. Can't really remember which came first. But the first MMO I ever really dedicated myself to one character for more than 20-30 levels was FFXI, which is still my primary game today.
