@gildhur

Probably not, since the emphasis is supposed to be on the norn. We've seen asura (I still don't know if we're supposed to be capitalizing races or not) in various other videos before.

But I'm guessing they will be the subject of the next Race week, whenever that comes around.

Haven't they said there won't be a Mesmer class, but they're promising something similar.

For a while I thought ArenaNet was going to rise above the idea of hyping a game for months to years before release and actually wait to hype the game shortly before shipping.

Take a page from Apple this week, the leaders in marketing. Did they hype a hew iPad that won't be available for 6-24 months? No, they hyped a machine that you can pick up in the store next week.

Do you know what that means? They are leveraging the emotional excitement of the iPad2 announcement before people really start to realize that it isn't really a significant upgrade. Sure it is faster, but there is barely any software to take advantage of it. And the cameras don't offer much - how many times do you face time on your iPhone4?

But, millions of people will purchase the iPad2 who don't need it at all. Even my own iPad (1) is suddenly feeling heavy and begs to get replaced in my emotional "get the latest toy" mind. That part of my mind is working hard to justify the $800 upgrade, plus new accessories PLUS a new data plan because I'll have to give the old iPad to my wife.

When I hear about a new MMO, I get the same way. I want to play it. I want to experience a new virtual world. By the time I have been hyped for months on end, I could care less about that world. I already know it. The "movie" has been ruined.

Game developers... use Hype as a marketing tool, not a way to destroy the impact of your actual shipping game! Sheesh.

@Anatidae the devs are not hyping the game the site are. And besides we have been waiting on this game since 08(initial release date). At some point ppl started to call it the mmo version of Duke Nukem forever.

Anyways, to you it might seem like hype to me its the information we have been desperately wanting to know for years. And it gives us fans of the game some slim hope that it will get released this year. Also unlike most devs whenever Anet releases new information it means that it has been finalized and working as intended.

Also right is the time when companies hype up the game for their fans base during event like this (it gives free publicity for the game). when the game gets a release date thats when the real hype begins.

anyways sry for going on a tangent or out of topic. not to sound corny but right now its "OUR TIME" you cannot believe how hype up i m about this game.

I still can't understand why people were expecting GW2 in 2008, it was only announced in 2007 that they were starting the project and mostly that early because they had to explain why GW wasn't getting any more expansions. Development time is usually around the 3-5 year mark so 2011 or early 2012 is right on target.

Duke Nukem Forever was in development since 1997, so you know... huge difference.

@Anatidae: A couple of problems about your post:

1) Games /= devices. They're marketed differently, and a game's sale is based almost completely off of hype and franchise recognition. That's why games are announced so much earlier than when they are supposed to release.

2) Everyone and their dog knew the iPad 2 was coming out in early 2011, so an announcement ahead of time was hardly necessary.

3) Arenanet can do whatever the hell they want, and you can take your terribly wrong opinions elsewhere. Thanks for playing.

@Anatidae They may have ruined the movie for you, but at least you can still play the game.

I absolutely hated the original game, but all the videos I've seen seem to be really interesting, the combat of the Thief specifically looks quite good, we'll see, I suppose.

I would have thought something like this would have been covered as it shows a lot of gameplay:
