Over the past few years, EVE Online's Council of Stellar Management has been making an increasingly large impact on the game. Every year, thousands of players vote in the CSM elections to select nine volunteers who can represent the interests of EVE's players. The council's job is to collect together details of issues players are having with the game, from bugs and balance issues to widely supported gameplay suggestions. Twice per year, the council members meet with CCP's developers in Iceland for the CSM Summit. It's here that the issues players have raised are discussed and prioritised.
As CCP's advisory council on game design, the CSM has been placed in a position of significant influence over EVE Online's development. Early last month, CCP put out the call for players interested in running for election to sign up and declare their intent to join the council. The entry period is now over, and a list of the approved candidates we'll soon be voting on has been published. Of the 72 players who applied, only 57 met the role's criteria for eligibility. Among those accepted are four previous council members hoping to continue their stay in the group and two former alternates. Each candidate has prepared a short statement on his or her reasons for standing for election, and many will be running campaigns on the forum and in-game in the weeks running up to the vote.

Oh hey yeah, I just ran a search on the candidates regarding faction warfare, and like three names came up, one being Ripard. Actually he is strong on two issues that I have been discussing in the EVE forums: the broken faction warfare system and the missing Bounty Hunter system. So maybe looks like two votes for Ripard :)

Hopefully Goons will get a bunch of seats. The current CSM is horrible.
CCP: Hai guys let's remove jump bridges and make nullsec logistics so annoying nobody will want to live there!!

@smg77 yeah, lets keep 0.0 the sea of blues it is right now. Goons would be horrible because they are part of the problem 0.0 sucks so hard, and would just vote for the status quo. Notice they didn't care at all about the CSM till they made noise about threatening their own assets and logistics.

@smg77 Electing goons is just hurting themselves. Current Sov system and mass NAPs aren't benefitting PvP or populating 0.0, and goons to the council are not going to change that. Instead, they will just argue for things that prolong their influences and make it worse.
The fact the current CSM had to threaten jump bridges just shows how hard it is to make a dent in this problem. Voting the Mittani in is just going to hasten the trend to making 0.0 a sea of renters with little to no PvP except for rare, gigantic fleets.

Say what you want about Goons but 1 year after karttoon fudged up their alliance they managed to make one hell of a come back and finally offed IT Alliance/Band of Brothers/Kenzoku. The largest formerly powerful paper tiger alliance in EVE.
Goons have a sound organizational structure outside the game. It allows them to organize thousands of players into an unstoppable horde charging at their in-game opponents with purpose.
Many other alliances have been unable to motivate their membership to such a level were they can "hell camp" a system 23 hours a day 7 days a week to break an opponents resolve to fight. Goons whether you love em or hate are successful at the game, mostly because they take it more seriously than most, but as far as I can tell its working as intended. You are simply proposing a nerf on success.

Wonder if any of these candidates will QQ and quit because of EVE adding walking avatars to the game.
Seriously, some of the community needs to harden the F up and realize it doesn't revolve around them (all the time).

I always voted for Chicks. :D
Im sure the CSM has been usful at 1st, but imo its just a stunt by CCP to deal with all the bad publicity the game has gotten over last couple years. Imo again they view the CSM as an annoyance now. Look at what happened on the meeting when the players brought up a list of bugs that CCP needed to deal with and CCP reps told them that thier money is going into other things and not fixing the bugs.
Im always hesitant when company staff play themselves and are far too involved.

CSM is a device that given Eve Online's culture, should be working as intended. There needs to be a panel who are players themselves and can identify the most pressing issues of the game, and relay them to the developers. Now, how well CCP listens to CSM is another story.
Seriously, if I am a developer, instead of reading a forum full of spam, troll, and flame threads to find useful suggestions, I"d rather read monthly report from a group like CSM.

What the hell is wrong with the Goons...I swear, it's like someone opened up the Asylum for Combination Asperger's and Tourette's Syndrome Sufferers, and gave them their own federation. They're either megalomaniacs like The Mittani ("I want to unite the CSM as a single body focused on core development and balance issues. To accomplish this, I need to be the CSM chair") or gibbering children like Kalrand ("But CCP really doesn't give two flying ****s about ideas the CSM brings to the table. They really only care about their own ideas. I'm sure they've got all kinds of stupid **** they want to put in (Incarna! Dust 514! ****ing Sparkle Vampires in Space!), that really needs to be shot down with a better reason than "**** you that's stupid."). The only normal one of the bunch is Helen Highwater, and he/she's got so tepid a platform that I have utterly no interest in him/her. I'd consider voting for Vile rat, but honestly, his argument for restoring the "grand" nature of the game rings hollow...look at his goddamn alliance! Part of the problem much? Hypocrisy.

@Calfis GoonSwarm touched me on my EVE-fun. They have a lot of moxy, complaining about how 0.0 is broken, when they're firmly in the camp with those who are breaking it.
