Very excited to see where this all goes. I quit Conan about 6 months ago, but the hardcore PVP server might just see my return...

So when the new PvP ruleset servers fail what will be their next gimmick?

@smg77 i for one iam pleased they are trying something different but mybe they should listen to you and not bother just close the servers dissapoint the people still playing and sack every body involved and roll over without a fight ??is that what you would like to see happen, do you even play the game?

Nope and gimmick PvP rulesets won't bring me back. Listen, the new ruleset servers will be busy for a couple weeks and then people will leave. Anybody left will start complaining about not having enough people to play with and the servers will get shut down. Anybody who thinks it will happen any other way is a fool and doesn't understand the wants and desires of the vast majority of mmo players. Player looting ain't it.

I do like the fact that PvP is being addressed for the AoC PVP community.

Nice to read an interview where nearly every question and concern I had was actually asked by the interviewer. Nice job, Jeff.

I'm glad to hear they are willing to be so flexible on the rule-set and listen to user feedback before implementation. I will definitely resub when the server goes live to give it a shot.

One of the reasons I quit playing AOC was because I was irritated with 1.5. To me it tamed Hyboria and made PVP less brutal. I liked it better when players were in charge of what was the right and wrong ways to PVP. I will definatly be resubbing for this update. I never thought I would say that. I was really angry with 1.5. I bought AOC initially because it promised a brutal PVP enviroment. Funcom has won me back.

AoC doesn't seem to know it, but they pioneered the MMORPG-FPS game. This is what set AoC apart and could still make it the best MMO for the next 10 years. Unfortunately they abandoned it due to their reluctance to enhance PVP.

They need to embrace the skill based aspect of the game. It is what sets this game apart from the others (not to mention the graphics/music).

B&G server may be a good step (still not sure), but it is going to the opposite extreme, thus making it a server for die-hard PVP'ers only.

To really move forward, they should really be looking at bringing in the average player, implementing:
- a faction based PVP server (not based on race/class or anything that would cause balance problems, any player can choose any faction).
- A ranking system
- removal of gear/grind for PVP

I see that most people complaining are frustrated that Funcom can't see what they have.

This is lip service until things are released and the player base approves. Since the Funcom pace of development and release moves at a snail's pace, they had better hope that they get this right on the first shot. There will have to be SEVERAL other changes to this game before it gets my attention again though.

@SWILK3RS

These are my "several":

1) Gear/AA gap between new players and veterans - simply not ignorable, if this area doesn't have massive changes the early adopters will eat all new players alive after the first month .... eventually killing the server. No one I have talked to is even considering coming back unless this is changed.

2) The CC revamp - Not saying this will be bad, I just have no real idea what they are doing, or even the overall goals with this. It would impact any PvP server enormously though.

3) Huge Class imbalances ( Stamina for Priests, Tracking for Rangers, etc. ). Especially with looting and no guards, there will be virtually no light armor priests ingame at all ... they can be hunted via GPS rangers and they can't even run since they have no stamina?

4) Loot rules - Needs to be something to stop people from farming players, as well as giving them the chance to get loot based off the amount of damage they contributed to the kill. This should not be linear either. A mob should not take me down to 10% then a player finish me off and get loot (if anything the mob should get it....). These rules have to be very very clearly thought out.

5) Population - both the pvp servers combined would not give enough population. There needs to be some type of additional surge be it Free-to-Play ( for base game only, like AO, maybe? ).

I really like the idea for the new server, but they have to be fully committed to the idea. The polls to the playerbase are a great step though.

I wish them luck with the new server though, AoC is a good game, but has the base there to be an amazing game. I just hope its not too late to change people's views on the title.

I think they still miss to understabnd that the PVP player need to have some kind reason for to fight. I mean something higher that just the pvp-xp in order to get the new item.

Funcom must introduce some form of territorial conquest for the guild, great PVP games like DAOC or EVE have it. This is a Guild Vs. Guild game but the war between guild are not supported.
Give us a reason for to fight, something more rilevant that a simple Battlekeep Buff.

@Lehmus Reason to fight?! Blood and Glory, baby. To hear the lamentations of the squishy, to see your enemy decapitated before you, to be the baddest, most feared toon on the server!
