Put up or shut up. Lock and load. Light the fires and kick the tires. Warp speed now, mister!
Whatever phrase gets you in the mood for some good ol' fashioned space dogfighting, dust it off and get it ready for use. Gamigo's announced that Black Prophecy has launched its open beta for European participants.
While Black Prophecy has been in closed beta in both North America and Europe, this new phase of testing represents the first time the game's been available to everyone. In anticipation for the rush to check it out, gamigo's opened two open beta servers in Europe: Kemmura (English) and Shinava (German).
To help new pilots get settled into the war, gamigo's provided a starting guide on the community forums with information about setting up an account, how to play, and how to post bug reports.
With the NDA down and the open beta starting, Black Prophecy's launch hopefully isn't far away. In the meanwhile, check out our first impressions of the game, and let us know what you think when you give it a whirl!

How about a little NA love? :(

@MaxC
Every major MMO developer apart from CCP (and arguably Funcom) is based in, releases earlier for and hosts contest just for NA folks.
Love wouldn't even describe what you get. Europe is like the unwanted child, but who's accepted because he/she is good at something (peoplez = muniez.) This is our small, unwrapped cardbox box for Christmas while you roll in £100 Action Man sets.
Although what that makes Oceania I don't know.

Did they fix that mouse lag that made the game pretty much unplayable?

Quite interested in the game, being an avid eve player im not going to attempt to make any comparisons, just curious to hear if any fellow players accross the ocean can tell us how this one is shaping up.

Is this like the glamed-up MMO version of Descent I've been praying for for the past 15 years or so?

Descent is a masterpiece especially if placed into the historical context when it was published.
During beta BP had no mouse lag I could speak of, but you have to consider weapon fire speed, distance and movement. There's a reticle showing you where to aim so all of this is pre-computed for you.
Still, you won't hit ANYTHING if you just fire on the reticle, because it is too fast paced, so you still need skill, which is developed in about 1 week of "training".
When you switch weapons or dynamics of you vessel, you need an adaptation period and have to adapt tactics, because different weapons behave quite differently. I won't enter this discussion but I can tell you that while you level you get ever more powerful (obvious) but you also need to be capable of "riding that mad horse" under your ****.
This is the exciting part. You really need piloting and dogfighting skills and the difference shows!
But... all the rest... well, grinding and unpolished UI, repetitive missions and some lag.
If this concept was developed by a big company (blizz/trion) it would have been HUGE.
I hope it will pick up interest enough to keep it afloat for a year, until population and implementation are mature up to the point it is worth my time.
Overall, I had good fun, but... well, I always had to repeat to myself that "it is still in beta and will be fixed"...

To US players.
When I see announcements about beta tests on US servers I usualy just sign up for a US server account and test the beta client. The latency will probably be about 50/ms higher depending on your bandiwidth and the time of day you play but it isn't usualy that much of an issue.
Beta tests never seem to block IP addresses and you don't have to give any definitive details to signup for an account seeing as how its a free test not a subscription.

Have been really looking forward ot this game and will try to judge it myself rather than listening to the negative (or positive) things people say about it - good advice for any game really! Its just a shame that I have really gotten into Rift and cant see me playing anything else for quite a while on the MMO front (as I am a one-game type of person and dont jump between games)

I've been waiting on this game for years. I'm glad they have finally put it out there, unlike Huxley who waited too damn long and now they're WAY behind, and it's more than likely it will never get released. I'm in the U.S. and i an tell you... I DON'T CARE if it's in Europe, hell as long as I get to play it, I'm cool.
Downloading now, can't wait :)
