I love EVE. I do not love the EVE forums. Not because of the structure or CMS. But because it is a haven for trolls and veterans who always, always think they know better than you. It is an exaggeration of all that is rotten about forums.

@ScottishViking That's exactly the reason I do not visit the forums. Everyone is right, but everyone else is wrong.

Every now and then you'll get a response from someone who genuinely is trying to be nice and help, but in my experience it was quite the opposite.

I can imagine one of those people would say on the forum:

"WTH CCP just wasted their dev's time developing a forum instead of fixing !"

Sadly, unless the new forum can automatically purge trolls and their posts and spams, it won't worth the time to look through.

I don't think you fully appreciate the usage of EVE forums, they're not like other MMO-forums. Trolling is a strategic asset which you use to demoralize your enemies. The best trolls are very subtle and very effective.

It's got nothing to do with "discussions", it's got everything to do with propaganda and positioning and it's very much part of 0.0 warfare.

@SgtBaker1234556 That's generous to the point of absurdity. I don't doubt that the forums are one of the areas out of game where warfare is continued, but honestly, most (but not all) of the posters are downright rude. That's not warfare. That's "your mamma shoulda taught you better, son" behaviour.

@ScottishViking EVE forums honestly suck. They could simply do away with them and no one would mind. Sgt, no one takes COAD seriously, and you get no demoralizing as opposed to the sense that all 0.0 big alliances are staffed with idiots who read 4chan way too much.

EVE forums are the equivalent to the recruitment channel in game, total waste.

@Dblade

A good troll poast is like wine - it must mature properly before it can be used. Yes, a lot of it is silly sperging by the scrubs, but you'll know a masterpiece when you see it.

It's even better when you put it in ISG or some other "serious" part of the forum. There are also external sites, k.com and SHC who more or less specialize in this, they're often even better for these purposes due to better moderation (CCPs moderation is about as awful as Massivelys) and tighter readership.

The purpose is to frustrate and to disrupt anyone who seems too "serious" about space pixels hopefully trolling them out of forums and in best case out of game. The more people you can agitate to "engage" in your troll, the better you are in the long run.

It's all part of the EVE metagame, just like hacking opposing teams TS-servers in order to blast Rick Astley at them during that critical Capital-op and placing strategic spy-alts to disband enemy corps/alliances.

And these days one might say that meta-game is much more interesting than actually logging in at all.

Unfortunately, it seems the login function of EVE-Gate is now broken and you can not therefore test the new forums and since you can not log into the test forums, you can't access the feedback section of the forum to give the feedback that you can't log into EVE-Gate and therefore can't access the forum that you need to access to be able to say you can't access it.

I'm sure they'll get it sorted out, though.

I don't understand CCP's infatuation with super-tiny fonts. In their game. In their websites. In their forums. In everything. So it'd be nice if they fix that in the new forums. It'd also be nice if they make the forum take up more of the screen, instead of filling a left column with tons of menus and the right column with tons of images advertising for other things and a forced-width center column where the actual content is.

The EVE website is simultaneously beautiful and hideous. I hope they plan to tend to this on a mass scale.

Yeah that is one of the first things I noticed when I started playing EVE and then went to the forums = trolls, nerd rage & if you wind up in some debate the other person will bust out with his alt characters to back him up lol (happens often). Kinda scares off the regular players, it's a really tough forum.

But that aside, the new forums are very buggy, I can't even post as many cant w/o messing with their browsers and having a little luck (to connect to the working server). Fixed width is not acceptable either. However, the improved features are pretty good, worth the change, but certainly in it's beta and not ready for prime time at this point. I'm sure it will though.
