Let's face it, sometimes Final Fantasy XI players can be all "???" about the game. And that's not apropos of nothing, since the most recent developer dispatch talks about the multi-function "???" used for both Notorious Monster spawns and event triggers. While players had asked to see a change to distinct symbols such as a "!!!" for events, the technical effort required to make the switch wouldn't be worth the relatively minor functional update. The same rule goes for the /names command, which players would like to see toggle for NPCs or PCs selectively.
The latest answers aren't all bad news, however, with one of the more interesting factoids being the roundabout announcement of official forums for the game. There's also news about updates to General Rughadjeen in response to his strange behavior following Protect V or Shell V, a problem originating from the fact that the spells didn't exist when Besieged was created. Final Fantasy XI players are encouraged to read the full list of answers.

@relgoth See the thing is they where so anti forums cause the JP players prefer BBS then what the western players are custom too. Plus the original Dev team wanted to be lock behind doors so that no player can try to reach them. I'm glad that XI and XIV now have fresh batch of people that are willing to listen to the players for once...

These questions they've chosen to answer seem fairly inconsequential.
"Q: Is there a way to adjust the volume of the title screen BGM? It always seems to be either too loud or too soft, and never just right."
I don't know.. I don't want to sound too negative, but that seems like a trivial question to choose to answer of all the questions they must've gotten.
I want to know if they have any plans to add to the NPC Adventuring Fellow system. More levels, better AI, different training books, the ability to travel to more areas, etc..

@Chiren
Well, it's shades of one of the Vanafest years, where someone asked about cheese sandwiches. If you want better questions answered, use twitter and ask. Sometimes they answer really good questions, like skill up rate, UI stuff, broken drop rates, etc...

@Daemodand It's a song about mermaid murder. It's only intended for sea creatures.

As a former player, it hurts that A.) They chose the asanine questions they did and B.) Give almost nothing in way of information. "This is broke" "Yes, we aren't fixing it" "Okay, this is broke too" "Yes, that wont be fixed either, sorry" "Well, this is fairly annoying and can cause problems" "Oh yes, we are aware, no fix though ok?"
So basically they just told them they're fixing nothing of importance and fixing trivial shit that should have been fixed years ago. Especially the damn Whitegate currency thing. I used to sell ISP by the warp taru and it would take an hour just getting the coins, catching the boat, spending 45 minutes with a macro to break them into silver pieces then making my way back.
