Congrats to Trion. Looking forward to getting into the game today and enjoying more of what I experienced in beta.

That means nothing a year or two from now or even months they could have a tiny player base and decide to open hardcore PvP servers with corpse looting in hopes to lure someone in again.

I played RIFT i was not at all im pressed to me if felt like more of the same and I personally feel it will be old news in less than 6 months.

@Thac0 Nope. 1 million registered users before official launch means the game will be successful for at least 7.625 years. The official calculation is on wikipedia.

@Thac0 If you have nothing nice to say then don't say anything at all. Sorry you felt the MMO wasted your time but at least the company allowed you to beta it without having to spend money. Also, there is nothing wrong with posted that you have 1 million + users in your game. It's news, they're allowed to post it. In a month they could post a loss if they wanted to, or a gain. News is meant to keep things relevant. If RIFT never posted any news about it then no one might hear about it. So when we find out it is 40 degress at 8 am does it matter? I mean by 4 pm, the peak, it will be hotter so why does it matter?

@Thac0

While I am also unsure about the game, I do see some potential and I see others are obviously interested in the title. Many times, it is not about "you" or "I", but about others.

These numbers can always be spinned in many ways (Warhammer boasted over 1 million people signed up for Beta). Breaking one million is not too hard. SOE has even done it.

But, it IS the longetivity that does count, Wiki-breakdowns or not. I just like to see some sustained data after launch month and down the line, but the game dynamics look strong so far, especially for those wanting to leave WoW for something else.

@The Minn

Way to put words into someones mouth. I never said it was a waste of my time. I'm also concerned that you think anyone with an option contrary to yours should remain silent. These days every game seems to announce that they have a million accounts.. sure its news i guess but what I'm saying is that I don't think its very relevant to some prognostications I've seen that use it as in indicator of great success.

I wish RIFT the best of luck quite honestly; I just don't get the excitement from what I've seen of the game.

@The Minn

Are you serious when you say "if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all?" What's the big deal if someone doesn't like this game? Why is it so easy for all the Rift fanbois to get their feelings hurt. Sorry that the rest of us didn't get the memo that we *have* to love this game. Gimme a break. It is absolutely NOT different than any other MMO out there. And what's worse, is that it stuck to a fantasy genre. Even SWTOR will at least have a unique environment compared to the sea of fantasy MMO's that currently exist.

@Thac0 Dude, totally agree with you. This game will get old fast. And with all the PVP based nerf fest going on, its going to quickly piss off a lot of players. Eventually each class will have just a couple of viable soul combinations and fail to produce the advertised 'endless' combinations. The actual rifts get old quickly too. 6 months and you will see server merges and them considering a F2P model.

Take that SOE! This is what happens when you finish a game before you release it.

Congrats to Trion. Looks like there'll be a similar announcement for SWTOR soon. Not too sure what these numbers mean for either game though, these kinds of pre launch accounts are nothing new, especially in games that use open betas as advertisements (which is something I think is great, by the way).

Still, shows that Rift isn't going to launch without a bang. I'll be passing on it myself - I think that Trion have done a great job and will continue to do a great job, and am genuinely look forward to any future games they look into developing. But Rift just hasn't really shown me anything new so far.

@Puremallace I'm not sure why you think I'm "hating". Are you really so insecure that somebody who doesn't share your opinion on something is automatically labelled a "hater"? Were you in my position, I suppose you'd be labelling yourself a "fanboy" right about now, right? Sure you would, because objectivity doesn't exist in your world, and if you're not lapping up the cool aid you're surely hoping for the game to fail.

You should maybe grow up.

I like the game, it's the first one to come out in ages that is actually polished and ready to go. I could see this game maintaining a pretty large number of subscribers.

It wouldn't be a Rift article without a least one negative nancy having their say :)

I've played several mmos and this one does have some stuff that sort of resembles some great things from other games but I am unaware of a game justlike this one. Can't wait to get home and start in on it!

awwww is that supposed to be me? Idk, lemmings are kinda cute. Remember the game called Lemmings? I loved that game....

Serious tho, I'm definitely not one for fanboi-ism, if a game is bad, its bad. But this game just isn't one of those, from the most objective standpoint I can muster. If you don't like it, that's cool, to each their own. For me personally, this is the most fun I've had in a game so far. And I'm very picky. :)

I registered an account with Trion so I could play the beta, but I don't plan on purchasing the game. So this could be pretty misleading if you think it will somehow reflect subscriber or sales numbers.
