as a person who currently/use to play korean tera i can tell you that healing with a controller is a horrible idea.

Hell, the more options the better!

I love controllers and while I tend to do all three on PC games, depending on in-game situations/circumstance, IMO, there needs to be more controller love.

@Space Cobra more options is always a good idea if they r good options. having more options for the sake of having more options is bad. And for an MMO where speed/reaction time is key i will tell u that using a controller makes u significantly weaker(reaction speed and accuracy) than your mouse/keyboard counterparts.

As long as they don't dumb-down the interface/controls/UI to make it easier for controllers to be used.

Otherwise: Great!

I don't get why people like controllers, or design for controllers when the game is only being released for PC.

Mouse and keyboard can do everything a controller does but do it better. Keyboards have more keys and mice are far faster and more accurate.

The only area where a controller is unique is pressure sensitive input. But who wants to run at 50% speed? You're either moving or you're not. And of course pressure sensitivity is not as accurate as mouse movements.

Unfortunately, I guess there are the people who prefer being gimped.

Personally, when I play the game I play to enjoy the game itself, not the particulars of how I control my character. If they made Tera controller-only, I couldn't care less. But keyboard/mouse is just logically better.

Again, the all goes back to opinion and preference. For some people, being forced to use k+m might be gimping them.

If you've got the option to use the format you prefer, great. That's all there is to it. Whether or not it actually suits the format of the game is a different story.

That's like saying it's preference as to whether a 9mm or a .50 cal is a more powerful weapon.

A keyboard has more keys, and it's easier and faster to reach more keys. A mouse is faster and more accurate. Keyboard/mouse is just flat out technically better than controllers.

But, like I said, some people like to gimp themselves.

If you want to makes apples to oranges comparisons to attempt to prove a point about opinions, then have at it.

The speed and ease at which keys can be reached again goes back to the individual player, and the accuracy of a mouse is only determined by the person who's hand is on it.

Some people just don't like it. WASD can feel cramped. Mouse aiming can be twitchy and overly sensitive. And because some players don't like that, they will play longer and perform better with a controller.

If they perform better with the gimped choice, are they really gimping themselves?

I really think it depends on the game. Any shooter, mmo or strategy, give me the mouse and keyboard. But I picked up a controller for games like Assassins Creed, GTA and Dirt2, and think it makes them MUCH more playable.

I am normally very pro-keyboard, but I found that when playing Champions Online I much preferred using a gamepad. Combos and other things were easier to do and the gameplay experience was more comfortable.

And I don't get why people think their opinions are better than other people's preferences. Other players obviously like using controllers more that's why it's being implemented. Is it usually more responsive or better? Not really, but there's other values about it that players enjoy so the least you can do is recognize that and respect it.

With that being said I think I'm still going to use a keyboard and mouse on this game, but we'll see! :D

When are these developers going to realize that a pattern is present when it comes to 'action' style MMOs. They fail. They are all going down the toilet when it comes to customer base retention. Everyone thinks that the general public wants some 'action' PVP mmo. And when they make one, claiming it is the new thing and revolutionizes the industry, they end up bombing. Just do a quality MMO and stop worrying about the 'action' targeting and PVP FPS 'who's got a bigger @#!%' contest.

Take your quake, counterstrike idea and go put it on a damn console where it belongs and stop diluting the MMO market.

@oxlar

So you don't want to dilute the MMO market with games that take different directions and try new things, but you do want more traditional MMOs available in their place.

Maybe you want to rethink that.

Mentioning "Quake", "CS" and "console" in the SAME sentence is a grievous sin for a PC player! Don't do it again, mkay?

Whats so 'new' about a PVP action based MMO? Everyone and their grandmother is making that 'new' type of MMO and they are all failing. And more and more devlopers keep following that flawed model. The only thing we are going to see is a bunch of MMOs that make the genre look unprofitable and turn off gamers to that market.

And what exactly is the benefit of having 20 developers trying to copy WoW?

@oxlar Maybe you should stop thinking in terms of action MMO = fail and ask yourself why those action games actually failed. AoC? Gankfest, bad designing, lack of endgame. Darkfall? Clunkly combat, buggy, generally unfun. Vindictus? Lack of skills, lack of content, instanced world.

None of said games failed because they were action MMOs. They failed because they were bad MMOs overall. Why hasnt a successful sandbox game been made? Because it hasnt been done correctly yet. Why hasnt any WoWclones succeeded in the past 5 years? Because they havent been done better than WoW yet.

So, why have all of said action games bombed? Not because people are disinterested in that style, but because they just havent been done correctly yet.
