too bad they left nagafan to die. One of the most populated servers next to ANtonious bayle and they couldnt even throw the pvp'ers a bone, much less fix all the issues.

SOE is dead to me

Non-subscribing EQ2Ex players actually can in principle buy the expansion box for access to Velious just like EQ2Live players... but Feldon reports that SOE has helpfully abolished "treasured" quest , rewards in favor of having every single quest drop "legendary" loot. This means that silver EQ2X players will have to pay for unlock tokens to use their quest rewards.

I'd originally been considering paying for a character copy over to the F2P server, but I'm guessing that there's simply not going to be any treasured loot going forward. Guess that's $35 I can spend on one of EQ2's competitors instead.

Meh. I gave up on EQ2 years ago, when it became clear that they had set up, and would maintain, a completely player-hostile environment. From day one, when forced-grouping was the order of the day, to now, where Gear, Spell, and Ability advancement require crafted items, or AH purchase. And, they have set the game up such that you cannot craft what you need, and the AH economy is now so expensive, newbs have no shot.

EQ2 could have been a great game. But it continues to die because SOE just cannot deal with players actually having fun on their own.

It never was a good replacement for EQ1. Heck, EQ1 may actually outlive it.
