Tortage may have been the BEST starting zone of MMOS yet

Laranga got some hungry eyes in that screencap.

Really though, I would love to have another starting zone as nice as Tortage ... or even be able to fight on Strom's side.

I agree Tortage is probably the best starting zone in any mmo I have played yet.

If you use the xp pots, and kill the boozed bullies (level 10 in Tortage night, and level 17 in Daytime, on the Rum and Rumble ship) as filler, you can get out of Tortage in just over 2 hours by doing ONLY the Destiny Quests! *Confirmed with Priest, and Rogue quests, not sure about Soldier.

Remember to kill every single mob you come across, as this will account for a BIG time savings!

Have fun, but remember to stop to enjoy the amazing graphics this zone has to offer!

:)

Tortage is great. On one character. Any alts after that though the tortage area gets VERY boring and you start to wish there were alternative places to level to 20 or for a start at 20 option.

That's right. It's a great starter zone, but to re-start new characters there is a total pain in the butt. There should be an option to start at Level 20 and skip Tortage for anyone who has already successfully completed it.

There should be a starter zone per race with multiple quest endings. (in any game)
Multiple quest endings is sorely lacking in MMO's

I think at least 4 times Tortage is great. So far one of the best starting areas I've ever seen in an MMO. For newcomers it's surely worth to do it instead of skipping anything..

As for those who have multiple toons surely not take lnger then 4 hors to get to lvl 16. You can skip some of the Awakening quests too, so I don't think that it would be so hard / boring to do it that ppl would like to skip that few quests..

Regardless of this the artilcle is really informative. Thanks for it.

I always tell people that Trotage is the best 20 levels in MMO gaming.

I quit playing AoC about 2 months after release. Tortage was (sadly) the best part of the game at the time. Not allowing players to skip repeating it ( which FC said even before release they would) is a perfect example of why I gave up on that game. AoC is my personal biggest disappointment in a mmorpg, and really turned me off to FC as a developer.

@Dogorox

Lets see, 2 months after release... that would be 2 and a half years ago. That is a long time to stay disgruntled over a bad launch. Don't know that you even care, but the game has gone through some growing pains since then. If you like Conan and have a decent gaming rig, it is worth having another look. AoC is among the better MMOs out at the moment. It doesn't have all its ducks in a row, but it is a solid game and pretty fun to play.

My problem with FC is that they continually overstated what and when they would implement features. The game I'd hoped to play when I joined the AoC community (a year or more before release) based on their claims slowly became something else. As launch neared (after at least 2 lengthy delays) promised features disappeared, were completely changed, or re-promised for "soon after release". All the while the dev's were unresponsive or even hostile to expressed opinions and suggestions of the fanbase. Even so I still was determined to try the game. After my 2+ months of waiting for things to get better and seeing no significant improvement, I lost all confidence in the dev team. I saw lead dev got replaced after I left so I guess FC felt the same.
While things may be different now, I've moved on to other games that offer the types of features that attracted me to AoC but were poorly or never implemented in my time there.
