World of Warcraft in space... wouldn't that be a Starcraft MMO?

It SHOULD be. But it isn't.

"World of Starcraft" will come soon though. Or is it "Galaxy of Starcraft"? ("Super Starcraft Galaxy"?)

That's what I was thinking, but I don't think this is it (unless you are sorta demanding where it Titan! ;) ).

Well, at least I hope not. I do like my MMOFPS, but like many, I don't know if it will be very comparable to a standard MMORPG with stats and crafting and all that jive.

@Sephirah It's always funny to see history repeat itself. Just like when MMOs were dismissed as nothing but a niche market before WoW. The same has been the case with MMOFPS. Someone is going to come along with a novel way to realize this and it's going to break a lot of ground. Why?Because nobody has yet. It's easy to naysay, especially when you lack vision.

Did you guys just totally forget about Planetside? :D PSNext will be there to greet this Bungie stuff with open arms too, I'm sure. ;)

@pcgneurotic PSnext won't hold candle to the Bungie MMO tho, you can be totally sure about that. There is almost no advertising about the game and they are almost releasing, something tells me that it wont be something amazing.

Possibly, but sony has not released a bad game for awhile now, all their games are rather polished now and they are on steam, Planetside next will get enough Marketing. This "MMOFPS" will probably still sell better because it will be on xbox, and has bungie and halo stamped allover, could be an aids infected turd with a halo sticker on it and people would still buy it.

Wait, Activision Blizzard?! Bungie, NO! No no no no no no no! No. Ahhhhhhhhh crap.

Already there goes the hope of it not having micro transactions.

Confused by this. Blizzard has, what, six items in the WoW store?
After six years, five vanity pets and one mount isn't very concerning.

Ah, but those are just the vanity items. There's also the character recustomization, character realm transfers, and character faction transfers, all of which were originally never going to be implemented. Until they merged with Activision.

@SeriousTable
Incorrect. The merger happened July 2008, my first server transfer happened before Burning Crusade.
I also remember character recustomization and name change during BC. Faction change is the only recent one.

Besides, would you prefer a game with no server transfer? $25 is expensive, but so many of us gladly do it. $25 is well worth not having to start my character over.

An MMOFPS seems like such a no-brained to get right but nobody has done it, yet.

I am optimistic that the crew at Bungie can pull this off.

I think the WoW quote is merely trying to get investor/media interest.

@Pingles There's no need for an MMOFPS, that's why.

All of the multiplayer combat scenarios have been played out in regular multiplayer FPSs. Everything else, like your bank or a city would be the same as in any current MMO.

In addition, I believe it's a different type of gamer that prefers FPS games, and wouldn't be tolerant of most other MMO features outside of combat.

Which as pointed out above, they can already get... everywhere else.
