Only reason players are not excited is what is different to do that can't be done with ships or the market.

@DemonXaphan Correction: "Only reason SOME players are not excited is ..."

I for one am excited by it. And it will bring a whole lot of new players who hate the whole "play as your ship" thing and want to feel the disconnect between ship and character.

And the pirates should feel happy as it will bring a whole new class of noob to gank.

CCP has not been all that forth coming about what Incarna entails besides making black market deals, corp meetings, mini-games or just walk around station. There has not been any mention of any PvP out side the ship so i don't know where you got the idea of pirates ganking noobs or anyone else in stations.

@DemonXaphan You need to think a bit more laterally.

Incarna is going to attract a whole new group of people who want to have a character to walk around with. Eventually that whole new group of people are eventually going to head out of high-sec space to explore. That's what I mean.

Incarna is an opportunity for CCP to expand the player base by making a different and engaging form of play style.

So - after 7 years of promises, it will contain absolutely no gameplay content at all.

of course it will. Incarna will have gameplay stuff, the update they mention with the captains quarters is just gonna be a patch in the meantime. mostly cosmetic, but cool nonetheless.

the actual Incarna expansion should have a lot of cool stuff.

Ok, can you tell us what that cool stuff is, because so far CCP has come up with - nothing.

Shame on Massively for not mentioning the single most cheer-worthy thing mentioned in that article:

Aura's tutorials will have voiceovers again! =D

(No but seriously, I loved Aura's voiceovers and I was disappointed when the new tutorials came out and she didn't voice them anymore. That announcement alone really made me happy.)

I'm starting to think Incarna is a huge troll of the Eve community by CCP. In all the time since they announced they were working on it they've released a couple proof-of-concept videos and now some sketches and a mock-up of your "captain's quarters".

They still haven't explained what "walking in stations" means for the game as a whole and how it will improve the core gameplay of internet spaceships. From where I'm sitting it looks like a huge chunk of dev time that's been wasted.

The devblog quite clearly states that this is only a preview of one part of what's comming though.

(That said - Incarna as a whole currently lies somewhere between "Bleh" and "Meh" on my scale of expectations)

Since it by no means approaches anywhere near the levels of hype for SW:TOR I think it's been demonstrated in a sensible fashion, but that's very CCP.

So what the hell is so awesome about this? You get an avatar to walk around in space stations?

Or what are you expecting? If you are so desperate for a humanoid avatar go play another game. There's a truckload of MMOs like that out there.

In my personal case, it's awesome because the further they develop this tech, the better the full Incarna setup will be, as well as DUST 514 and World of Darkness. It's a company stretching its wings in an entirely new direction and reinvesting in its extant game rather than scrapping it and restarting everything by creating a sequel.

My .02, but that's why I'm rather chuffed at the changes. CCP is a studio full of good folks, and they're keeping their players in mind (yes, even the ones who don't give a flying rodent's backside about Incarna) by continuing to invest in their core game and improve on its technologies.

@Krystalle Voecks

It's funny how perceptions differ.

In my opinion CCP has done exactly the opposite, they've looked away from the core gameplay and started investing dev time in new features instead. They promise to iterate the old, but it never happens. This leaves the game full of badly implemented, broken features but CCP doesn't really care as long as they get to push their next awesome new pile of crap out of the door. Going back and re-iterating old stuff doesn't get them press-releases.

After following this "dev and dump" method for several years, I finally got tired of it and canceled all my accounts.

CCP is not very interested in their core game - they are very interested in new subs though.

No they do care about the core game play and are working with the CSM to further that development. Like any mmo they need to expand and develop to their player base who do see this as a advancement of the game, while others are mostly meh about it.
Things change but sometimes things take time to fix also.

Let me guess, you haven't actually read the last CSM minutes or read the thread on SHC where the CSM rage over the fact that CCP is avoiding their questions about actual gameplay content in Incarna (plus refusing to show them any of it, while giving "exclusive" peeks to outlets who they know won't critisize them)?

But anyhow, I'm just a bittervet - keep believeing the :awesome:
