The Daily Grind: What bug has been around forever?

6 years strong and im 98% sure the Vanish bug is still a problem in wow. Its just one of those bugs that will continue to be there, That and hunters pet cower bug.

It's just about in every MMO really. An enemy gets stuck on a random object or retreats to full health suddenly. Then all it says when you attack is "Evade, Evade, Evade." I know this happens to prevent cheating of some sort, but I think it's very silly we still have to put up with that. I've actually ran into it where it's more unfair to me honestly.

Well, I know of a bug still around that I reported on the 25th of October in 2007. Its where you have Symbiotic bond on your pet and if you happen to get disconnected and reconnect, the bond will appear as a maintainable enchantment, only you can't dismiss it and have to wait for the original duration before it disappears (or maybe it lasts forever, I don't recall).

Symbiotic Bond is rarely used but still, that's no excuse to have something like this bug still in the game.

As a bunny-hopper, there's one "bug" (not sure if it's actually a bug or intentional but it doesn't seem right...) where you get caught on geometry, and even though you CAN get free, you suffer "fall damage" even if you are standing on flat ground. Fall damage in that game is calculated by the length of time you fall, and that calculation is also applied to being "stuck" on geometry, so if you get stuck for more than 5 or so seconds then you just fall over dead... I don't know how many times I've frantically mashed the space bar and arrow keys trying to dislodge myself from a rock before I fall over dead, and even if I live I usually lose a big chunk of health (then one-shot get ganked 2 seconds later).

Perfect Wolrd International has a whole list of long time bugs but the one that really annoys and that no one can figure why they won't fix is the "rubberband effect". It happens most often when jumping. More often when jumping downward from a height to a lower height. You suddenly are caught in a rubber band or bungee motion that wont let you land, go forward backward or anything until it corrects itself. The only ways out of it if it doesnt correct itself are to initiate flight, if you can, or log out of the game and back in. Except for the Winged Elves, characters under level 30 can't fly so they are domed to losing all their buffs and so forth because they have to log out to fix it.
Just out of curiosity once, I let it sit there and continue its bungee ruberbanding to see how long it would take to self correct. After 35 minutes and a roast beef sandwich, I got bored and logged.
Players have been begging and pleading in the forums forever for the company to fix this most annoying bug but they still can't ot won't. I'm waiting to see if the new expansion due out on March 2nd eases things or just adds more.

Entire EVE online?

Several months ago I attempted EQII Extended. While I was able to play for a while, I was soon frustrated by two bugs which would crash the game. The first was an "Out of Memory" error that some research revealed to be caused by a memory leak. The second was a "DirectX" error which ended up preventing the game from even launching. At that point I gave up and moved on.

How does this relate to the topic at hand? In doing research on the errors I found several forum posts from as far back as 2008 describing the problem and offering fixes (none of which worked for me). These bugs have been around for 3 to 4 years, but have never been dealt with successfully. Unbelievable!

I don't know if it's still there but the last time I played AoC (when Khitai launched) the Herald of Xotli bug was still there. Your demonic form ends and you discover that all your hair burned off or something -- you're now bald.
