This should help begin the transition to FTP, which I am definitely looking forward to at some point.

Cool. They need to go f2p now with an option to subscribe and a shop.

I honestly think we are going to see the F2P happen later this year. I am also hoping the engine upgrade allows more graphical quality for low end machines and uber quality for high end machines starting with dual cores on up.

It is really tempting to buy some of those permanent teleportation abilities.
I would love to see permanent teleportation abilities become raid drops.

Adding my voice to those who hope this is a sign that AoC will go F2P in the near future! I'd love to try it, but I refuse to play any game that holds my characters hostage for a monthly ransom (as Tempes Magus so aptly put it).

Lets just hope they don't do their F2P component in a trashy way that leaves you violently nerfed, as Champions Online did. We need a true Free to Play that is open, and makes most of it's money from expansion pack content, adventure packs, a wallet cap, and character slots/storage space.

Hopefully they also put the same "deed/achievement" system that LOTRO uses to give free points based on characters, so it'll be accessible to all, and get the lips of their players wet making them want to buy more rather than farm. It worked with me and LOTRO... I ended up spending about $30 on LOTRO thanks to the system giving me free points, yet making me want more. It was weird.

If they do it well, it'd probably be a pretty big shade of bad arse. Still, don't count your chickens before they're hatched. How long has Warhammer been riding the Pay To Win item shop donkey, yet still demanding a subscription fee? Companies that item shop without going Free to Play or ditching the sub absolutely disgust me...

Not real crazy about Sub games doing cash shops as well.

The whole idea of cash shops was an ALTERNATIVE to subs. Not a way to get subscribers to pay even more.

I hope this is just a step towards F2P.

I'd reinstall but doubt I'd play much and I certainly not spend a cent in the itemshop.

They are going to let players buy best gears in the game for veteran points they get through keep active subscription. It is very likely possible that they will also start selling this veteran points for money. Why don't FC let AoC go completely F2P and let people buy best gears for money?

I'm not going to hide my dislike of ingame RMT especially in a subscription based game. Yes I realise everyone and their dog are doing it these days, doesn't mean I have to like it.

Certainly seems they are paving the way for a move to F2P, think I'll just cancel my subscription now and move on to another game.

That'd be cool if it was free to play. To bad even if there's no sub it'll still be pay to play.

Why don't they look at charging less per sub sometime? Why is no one going for that? There's another pretty obvious option that no one has tried other than going micro transactions f2p. It's too bad no ones tried putting it together.

FtP, subscription, I don't give a hoot. I just want whatever business model Funcom chooses to be the best for the game. Whatever keeps the additions, upgrades, patches, and expansions rolling in is the model I'm for. I like AoC and want to be able to continue playing it for years to come. Diablo 2 is like that for me. I've been playing and enjoying that game on and off since it launched!

As long as AoC remains available to play, and keeps evolving, I am a happy camper!

I hope that this F2P will not happen soon.. reason: The quality of the playerbase and the quality of the support will likely go waaaaaay down as soon as it becomes F2P. And I'd ratehr have less, but competent players around then more, but braindead / teenagers..

The item shop stuff is a big hoax.. At least the pets are.. I've bought the owlet and the crab, and they are not nearly worth the money.. they are small, they desummon on ANY attack, ANY instance, ANY area change and plus they cannot keep up with the character, and to have the full picture the owlet only flies when you move,, Otherwise it just sits in the grass..

Don't even try finding them in there anymore.. For those who wonder if they should buy it or not I stronly recommend NOT to, until at least they've seen video about them or something.. Here you can find pictures (if I can post them) :

Oh and almost forget to mention that you can get them freely (!) ingame..
