We have all had issues with deleted characters. How many horror stories have you heard about someone's brother or friend or cousin or cousin of a friend's brother "hacking" his account and deleting his character? We know how tempting that Rune-keeper Dwarf was, and you had to delete your favorite Guardian to have it. However, you found out that the Rune-keeper was totally against your concept of canon. What can you possibly do? You can't delete the canon-breaking Rune-keeper to get your dashing young Guardian back, can you?
Well, never fear. Turbine has a service for that. Despite your cousin of a friend's brother's hacking attempt or your fickle nature, Turbine will gladly restore your character to his full glory, wherever and however you left him. Bear in mind, if you gave away all your gear and left him standing naked on a cliff, that is exactly where he will be when Turbine restores him.
Turbine is offering the Undelete Service for US$19.95 for both Dungeons and Dragons Online and Lord of the Rings Online. As of right now the team states that, as with any new service, it expects a high volume of requests, so turn-around times will be affected. For more information, check out the release statement on the official site.

I wouldn't go quite that far but.... I would go some distance in that direction. Especially for what is essentially a basic database operation.
And I can't really imagine the demand being what they say they expect it to be. Possibly handy for someone who has had their account hacked. But at $20 a character and with multiple characters per account that's still gonna hurt.

Because when a game does something right, I tend use it as an example. I'm sure there other examples with other games as well. /shrug
But consider this, and setting aside the P2P vs F2P arguement...if your LoTRO account gets hacked into, you will have pay threw the nose to get your characters back if you lose them. Do you think that's fair, when it's something they could quite likely offer it for free as well? Something tells me that Turbine is nickle and diming you on your misfortune. Just saying.

@Utakata You pay 180 bucks a year for WoW and you can literally pay zero dollars for LotRO.
Do you still think LotRO services should be free too cause WoW does it?
You do know WoW charges for pretty much every other database service don't you?
WoW
Character transfer : $25
Faction Change: $30
Race Change: $25
Re-customize Character: $15
Name Change: $10
So really. REALLY!? You're complaining about a $20 undelete character saying WoW does it better when doing simple data changes in WoW like a faction change costs $20 on top of the $15 a month you pay?

Tell me, how far could you get without paying. North Downs, perhaps? Maybe even into Evendim or Forochel if you saved your points and used sales wisely, but not beyond that.
Also: I paid my life sub ages ago; I'm not going to be charged for a service that should, by all accounts, be free.

Can't really compare often game saving service of restoring deleted characters usually after hacked account to convenience service of re-customizing/transfering character...

Thankyou for pointing that out. Although that should of been obvious from the start...but I knew the LOTRO/F2P apologists would conveniently overlook this. As I said, taking away the P2P vs F2P arguements over this...perhaps it's because I mentioned Blizzard.
@hami83
As been pointed out, we're not talking about cosmetic changes (stuff I actually disagree with in regards to WoW and do not use), we talking about a basic restoration service, that you seem all too happy to get bilked over. But save it...until you lose your character you long worked on to a hack, and spend months having to re-roll it. Or pay to the nines to have it restored (or a bunch of them). I suspect then you will have a different opinion about then. Good luck to you in the meantime.

By the way, how do we know that LotRO will charge if your account gets hacked? The announcement is all about if YOU have deleted a character. If you get hacked that becomes a customer service issue and it's entirely possible that Turbine would restore your character(s) for free.
They might not. But it's certainly unfair to condemn them because you assume that they won't.

I learned my lesson. I never delete characters in a fit of anger. Anymore.
I have no intention of ever playing WoW again so I contemplated giving away all my stuff and deleting my toons but I know that I'd regret that someday so I didn't.
I can't see paying $20 to have one undeleted.

I believe if you have a compromised account (hacked), turbine will offer this service free of charge. That's what the dev alluded to , in any case. There will be more info next week, when they announce the ability to roll back hacked characters.
