New RIFT trailer shows off dynamic invasions

Ho hum, another day, another RIFT reveal. Trion is carpet-bombing the MMORPG battlefield with an all out marketing assault as the March 1st launch date for its fantasy opus draws near. Today brings us a new trailer titled Cry Havoc, and in it we are witnesses to an interesting time-lapse presentation that shows off various in-game battles featuring large contingents of players on screen.

Unlike the previous CGI extravaganza, this trailer is composed entirely of in-game footage. The highlights were captured in the game's latest beta event, and the clip illustrates the zone-wide invasions made possible by the RIFT's dynamic content system.

The next beta event starts tomorrow, and you can get in on the action by heading to the signup portion of the game's official website. Before you do, be sure and check out the Cry Havoc trailer after the cut.

Really, why they speed up the action? Have yet to Beta, but it looks suspicious...

@Space Cobra They sped it up because the fights with those bigguns can stretch out for 30 minutes or longer.

I actually went back and watched the trailer again with it muted, playing Yackety Saxophone in the background.

Pretty fitting.

Im not sure the ingame graphics are good enough to make an epic trailer. Even though rifts are fun, the way they are depicted isn't like "OMG i want to play this NOW"

I think the graphics are quite good, if you set them to Ultra and have a machine that can sustain 30+ FPS during a big invasion. It looks like they lowered the render quality for this trailer though, didn't see character or environment shadows. And, like Space Cobra said, speeding the action up doesn't help too much either, from a presentation perspective.

@Stuxatte I don't think this is a trailer to sell the graphics, it's more to sell the epic size of the invasions.

Having been involved in some pretty big invasions in the beta, well, I can assure you that they don't take the 58 seconds of the video - as has been stated, 30+ mins for the big guys to go down. If you really want a 4hr trailer, I'm sure Trion can explain why they won't be doing one.

Sure, I was just responding to BigAndShiny's comment about the graphics and how this trailer doesn't showcase them.

I've also been in the Beta and seen the rifts / invasions. Speeding up the video is one way of showing how long they take, although it's still hard for the uninitiated to gauge that from this trailer. Anyway, I don't mean to sound like I'm harshing on Trion. Criticism is a form of love!

Haven't played the game, but at least they're doing the marketing part right. I see fking rift everywhere (online).

Yes I agree very weird video. I could make a better cinematic using in game Rift footage and I don't know what the heck I am doing. =P

Been playing in Beta for months, I have to say the game is quickly loosing its momentum for me. Its gone from a must play to a distraction.

@Aleforge The trap of beta. If you'd been playing for months with the game already released you'd be well into the end game experience...and probably not bored.

I HAVE been in beta. I have to say that while the game is great fun, this video isn't very good (yes, it is very Benny Hill-ish (The opening cinematic when you launch the game isn't very good either -- hopefully it will change in time for launch, but who knows).. I have seen some decent fan-made videos from the beta --

Don't judge the whole game based on this video -- at least try out the beta before you decide if its for you.

Excellent videos. They give a nice glimpse of how actual gameplay in Rift feels. I was skeptical going into Rift Beta after being utterly disappointed by so many mmos. I have been pleasantly surprised with the game thus far. I look forward to playing Rift, hopefully for a long time.

Yes i was surprised at this video also. Does not seem like the normal Trion that I'm familiar with.

That wasn't the best vid I've seen for Rift. However, they did increase the invasions last beta to such a scale it was epic. Open beta tomorrow will tell if this was stress testing or if this will be the norm.

I really have enjoyed this game.

Going through Rift withdrawals! 1 more day!
