When there isn't equally sexy gear available for male characters.

Well comparing Aion, GW with TERA. I think TERA went so far as where the least covering armor really only covers the crucial sexy parts (:P) by the bare minimum. WHere in GW and Aion the armor at least puts some sort of double layer over it. Like a teenie tiny skirt or pieces of cloth hanging down vs nipple tassels and a string. Well by comparison anyway.

Not that I'm an expert, but I think men and women in real life think diffrent things are sexy. Men like youth and beauty women like status and wealth. So having the equivilent of sexy man armor may not actually be very appealing to women. Mabey the equivilent is putting the male avatars in a suit or give them a big coin purse (err). =)

I see, so women are gold diggers then.

Stereotypically, yes. And men are pigs. I personally do not think most women are "gold diggers" but if you open your eyes you'll see women pining over the established gentlemen rather than the young buck. Men do things like pay money for strippers and pornography. Women rerely do these things and are more interested in the opposite sex's other atributes like social status and earning potential.

Now I'm sure that women do enjoy a beautiful man, but I don't think this is a focus for them. I can't imagine that a woman MMO gamer would really go that crazy of a hyper-masculine avatar in little clothing. Guys, if you want to impress a female gamer with your character, put away those pecs and buns and show her your purps!

That being the case care to explain the amount of older women that fawn over the likes of Taylor Launter? Famed pretty much entirely on the fact he's a half naked werewolf.

Ahh touche! Good point. However, I bet an even greater number obsess over Edward Cullen, an established older gentlemen. Also, notice in the movies she picks him in the end as well.

Actually most of us lust over real men that are sweet, funny, loyal, honest, easy on the eyes and good with children and animals...unless we're already married to them. My husband had recently been laid off when we started dating before landing an IT career, and I'm the one with the college degree. Good moms and dads teach their daughters to be self-sufficient so we can find decent men who treat us right and not worry about material wealth and other superficial desires that contribute to a high rate of infidelity and divorce.

Also, even if Bella didn't choose Edward, she still would not have ended up with Jacob as his obsession was due to the fact that he was imprinted on one of her unfertilized eggs. Please don't judge an entire gender by the outspoken minority who ate that proverbial poo with a spoon.

And that's provided we're even straight.

But on the subject of armor, Guild Wars is equal opportunity when it comes to exposed flesh and gives the player the option of being modest or not....I tend to lean on the "or not" side because it's not real and just for fun, and I've never had someone hit on me because of how my character looked.

I know there's some depraved gamers out there, but I'm pretty sure they are a very small group, and as long as they stay in the confines of their parents' basements, who cares.

Um, did Age of Conan ever go through any harassment for sexual content?

How quickly people forget the 'boob reduction' scandal of '08!!

To answer the original question though, I think it's when they start shoving camel toe in your face, as in some of the TERA outfits.

Sex sells.

But since I'm a guy, I can't really speak for the players attracted to the male avatars. I'm sure there's a double standard somewhere, but in games where there are skimpy outfits for women, there are bound to have male outfits that emphasize parts that women find attractive in men.

I'm pretty sure people prefer to look good; even their virtual selves. IMO, the line is drawn if there are absolutely no conservative alternatives, and players are forced to wear skimpy armor.

i like classy above skimpy clothing on woman, even in real life. O i will be a boy and look at the skimpy ones, but they are dieing to get attention. I generally do this with games of this age too, games like Tera want adolescents to pick it up, but i rather have games like Aion or even Lotro where armour on woman look like it can take a desecent hit.

And in defens of GW1, most armour version of males usually is just as skin exposing as the female ones :P

I dont pay attention to cleavage or the sexiness of the armour as Im too busy enjoying the game, but then again Im a mature, family man with better things to do than compain about unimportant things that have no relevance to gameplay. Always makes me smile when I read forum posts from kids moaning about how a lack of armour isnt "realistic" and how sexist it is.

The point is, in the end its all about personal choice and opinion so theres not really a line to cross (unless its breaking a law) or at least everyones line is in a different place - ones persons irrelevence is another persons outrage.

Oh those kooky Castanics and their pantless armors.

Honestly though, one persons perception of 'just fine' is another's 'way ove the line' so trying to appeal to everyone's sensibilities would be a waste.

I would hope that most developers create armor options that span the spectrum of chain mail bikinis to fully encasing platemail. You know, so everyone can choose what they like.
