Heatwave Interactive has released an internal Q&A session focused on the Praetorian Guards program surrounding its new Gods & Heroes MMORPG. What, pray tell, is a Praetorian Guard? Well aside from the poor bloke that Russell Crowe's General Maximus unhorsed during the first reel of Ridley Scott's Gladiator, a Praetorian is also an elite Gods & Heroes community member "who volunteers [his] time to role-play, [run] events, and coordinate dungeon runs and quests." Guard members also maintain the game's wiki and collect player feedback pertaining to their assigned roles.
Sound interesting? Head to the official Gods & Heroes dev blog for a full listing of the positions available as well as the perks and membership guidelines.

I plinked around in this game for a few hours. I just can't bring myself to play any more cookie cutter MMO's. Had to turn it off.
It seems like an original setting and the classes/god powers are pretty neat, but the above stated kept me from getting too into it.

I agree, even though the new developer may be awesome. I honestly think they would have been better off creating a new MMO. The game currently has comparable graphics to the original EQ. It has a lot of bugs, and the gameplay is just plain clunky. The concept is cool, but the devs have even come forward talking to the community about how they have no idea how certain stats even function, or how to fix some issues right now. I just don't see this game turning back a profit or staying alive after a cancelation like it had and being picked up by a dev studio that doesn't even know the code at all.

They are totally rebuilding the ui, maps, graphics, content, minions, progression, pve and world.
Seriously, they are hiring people like every day. I have no idea where the money is coming from in this recession, but hey.

It seems doomed, how they thought it was a good idea to buy a half finished game when none of the new team had any experience of working with the code is beyond me. The time it will take them to become familiar with it they could have designed their own game.

By the way, I should mention nobody should be discussing their gameplay experiences with a game in closed beta status. You signed an NDA to say you understood that.

@FrostPaw
agree about they 'should't break a NDA', but seriously..
those things are a joke really. It's just stuff they put in there for lawyers but breaking NDAs in this day/age don't mean anything much.
It goes against the agreement, but no one reads a NDA fully anyhow. And companies don't go after people that 'break' them.
NDAs are kind of like mattress and pillow tags that say "Do Not Remove Under Penalty Of Law".
If companies don't sue sites that allow people to put up broken NDA agreement videos from alpha/beta trials, it can't really be all that important.
I think NDAs are more of a propriety thing so no one can steal your ideas or mechanics but we've seen how well that worked for games over the years, lol.

This is a neat IP for an MMO. I hope they are able to pull it off.
