@MrsAngelD Rumor has it that June 6th is the release date. At least at the moment... If not by then, definitely before September is my guess.

Gah! Just announce the special edition already so I can pre-order it! You cruel, cruel people... I have money...! Dollars, Pecos, Yens, anything you want! I'll even barter! Just give me a pre-order date for the collector's edition!

Hell, I'll thrown in my sisters too for payment if it comes with beta access!

I really hope this is beta and not some sort of marketing because they have had this game in development since 2006.

@SaintV

GW2 was announced in 2007, and the ArenaNet retrospective suggested that they did not even begin really working on it until it had been announced.

You make it sound like that's a long time...

Five years used to be the standard development term for triple-A MMOs - that's how long it takes to get a polished product with lots of content and a good long beta to make sure it's ready for launch.

I much prefer that to the recent trend, with companies like Cryptic knocking out an MMO in 1-2 years with a couple of weeks of beta testing, then just pushing it out the door unfinished, flawed and content-light to try and make a quick buck.

Give me hand-crafted MMOs over crapped-out MMOs any day.

Sigh, why do people think it has anything to do with when the game comes out? Games need to be tested long in advance of their release.

Also, it really doesn't sound like "marketing" like some games do. It's small testing for family and friends. Doesn't sound much like marketing to me, unless they are only marketing their game to family and friends...

Beta won't *too* long before release; ArenaNet previously stated that they intend to have beta close to release because they are aware of how polished even beta needs to be in this market.

I don't have to believe it, I just choose not to make up an alternative explanation just because I don't have any other information.

Dude, if they put out a pre-order button yesterday, I will personally see to it that Time Travel becomes a reality, so that I may be first to Pre-order the game.
