@OneEyeRed

Man, from WoW to child porn in one post. That's... impressive?

I think ive changed my mind on buying this when it comes out. 2nd beta ive participated in and newness finally wore off. Dont get me wrong its a good game but i have 2 problems with it.

1) The combat is really spammy. The melee classes have abilities with no cooldown and are only limited by the global cooldown. And the casters might have one dot on a CD, but the rest of the spells have no cooldown. So at this time its really just spam your biggest spell/ hit for highest damage. Im really hoping down the road they introduce a rotation based ability system. Where you have to press 1 2 3 4, instead of 1 1 1 1 1 1 2

2) I cant get into the lore/cant immerse myself into the game. All of the cinamatics that ive seen so far confuse me. I havent read any of the lore yet, but the cg animations usually explain what is going on a little bit. And the reference to "dragons" isnt really appealing as just about every fantasy mmo has evil dragons to kill. Im not really big into lore and i can usually ignore it if the game has good combat, but that is not the case here.

I Hope they are able to fix one or the other enough for me actually pick this game up in the future. Rift has a lot of potential, but i think ill take the wait and see approach for this one

@relgoth

You know what, I completely understand where you are coming from. I am going to thank you for posting such a constructive summation of your feelings on the game.

You can't get into the lore? That's cool, it isn't the most original storyline. I agree with you on the cinematics; they did not convey to me enough of the weight of what these rifts and Regulos coming back really means to the world. Sure this dragon guy is bad, but bad on what scale? Since he had been beaten before is he really that much of a threat to go fiddle with time travel?

Reading through some of the quests though is where I found most of the meat and the gravity of the situation. BUT I understand that a lot of what makes 'good' lore is about access and presentation. In Rift's case, the content IS there - but the accessibility and presentation isn't the best.

In my personal case, as I found that the game mechanics and atmosphere got better as I leveled up, I will give this game the benefit of the doubt that they have at least an intriguing storyline full of twists and turns somewhere down the line.

Not every game is for everyone, but people tend to forget that and go blast off a huge troll rant about how such game is not what they want it to be. I will say it again, I appreciate you coming here and saying it is not for you, and why. This is the way people SHOULD act on sites like this - it only helps the industry evolve and get better.

@relgoth

I actually find myself really growing to like the story and am extremely intrigued by it. However, I actually agree entirely with you that they aren't presenting it well at all right off the bat. They could REALLY use a good intro cinematic, which they most definitely do not have. This is one of the very few areas in which I don't think they have absolutely nailed presentation-wise for a new player.

If this game didn't start sucking in all the people I left world of warcraft to avoid it would still be a game with great potential to me. However by bringing all those terrible people that I had to leave channel /4 in BETA, that is just too much. I seriously doubt it will get better after release. I am canceling my preorder.

I just hope GW2, SWTOR or TERA will have a community that will make the game worth my time and money. RIFTs community is just WoW all over again, no thank you.

@(Unverified) When I was playing in this latest round of Beta (6) there was very little behavior in the chat channels like you see in WoW, and in the few cases it did crop up most of the people berated those behaving that way very quickly (and politely) and it stopped.

If you think this one has a lot of WoW players leaving for it, SWOTOR will have just as many because it is based on Star Wars. GW2 probably will since it will not require a subscription to play.

Blizzard is primarily responsible for the way people behave in WoW. They allowed that type of behavior to happen, and the more mature players finally gave up trying to put a stop to it and turned off most public chat channels.

@OneEyeRed Whoa, I didn't want to upset you. No reason to be aggressive. I'll explain it in easy words: being extreme to get a point across => the point to get across is probably wrong. And while I say this I'm not extreme. So I don't contradict myself. Also I agreed on content but criticized exposition. Again, no amazement. No contradiction.

If (hopefully WHEN) Trion finally finds a fix for the problem with various ATI vid cards (and couple odd Nvidias) I will be 100% sold on this game. Sure, there could be some better character customization- physically speaking- but that wont break the game for me. Pulling

I'm amused to see people saying they should stop beta testing and release the game already. Haven't we all been whining about "half finished" games for the past few years?! For what it's worth, I did actually submit a few bug reports during the last beta test.

I didn't expect to like RIFT. I tried it on a whim. I'd seen a few videos of the game and nothing really impressed me. So I was actually very surprised to enjoy the game so much. I'm looking forward to the next test and I'm seriously considering subscribing.

@Evi
I also submitted a few bugs and made some suggestions. It is pretty polished though. No game-breaking bugs for me, but I am just one player.

@Hjordis
I just switched to an ATI card from an NVidia card and I did experience some game freezes. But it seemed fine as long as I kept the temperature under control.

With my graphics card being cooled down and I haven't had any full crashes after all the windows 7 Service pack 2 updates, I'm so gonna try and see if I can play this fully, I was so annoyed my graphics card was being problematic during most of the Closed beta events. I just hope it will work with the open Beta. Can't wait to do a few rift raids. Especially after watching the stream here on Massively. (I had no other choice)
