This week's APB Reloaded blog update is a big one, so big in fact that it required two devs to write it. GamersFirst CEO Bjorn Book-Larsson kicks things off with a look at the Asylum, a new area currently under development and slated to become San Paro's third play district. The Asylum will contain a variety of new game modes, and while the article is light on those particular details, it does feature a handful of screenshots showing off the locale's creepy confines.
The meat of the blog entry comes courtesy of GamersFirst designer Zak "Qwentle" Littwin, who pens a lengthy missive focused on the major problems with APB's original incarnation (and consequently the major priorities for GamersFirst going forward). Littwin spends a good amount of time going over everything from the new mission and witnessing structure to changes involving APB's matchmaking and scoring systems. "While you can work out why you got what you did at the end of a mission, it's rather confusing. We want to make this score visible to players and highlight the amount of score you get when doing certain activities. We can then also increase the amount of benefit that score gives," Littwin says.

omg I'm so excited about this. Can't wait for the APB to come out! Hopefully it's smoother, not as resource hungry and more stable. Cause it crashed A LOT!!

"Creepy" new action district? Zombies, maybe? It seems to be the norm these days to feature the undead - ordinarily I would say "great!" but its a bit out of place in a game like APB.
Still REALLY looking forward to seeing what it is evolved into.

To be fair, creepy is the word that sprang to mind when I looked at the screens. GamersFirst isn't advertising it that way, nor do I suppose it has anything to do with undead, lol.

All of these APB articles and I still haven't heard any answers to the most important question an online FPS should be answering : what about latency, ping, etc? That was the only thing that kept me from paying for the game originally...

1. APB isn't a first person shooter.
2. They actually have addressed latency and ping in an earlier blog

And also the producer of APBR touches on the subject a little more here

There were times playing APB in a group when I've had the most fun I've ever had playing ANY PC/PS3 game: ever!
Then I would get smoked by aimbotters and the fun moments would turn to ash in my mouth.
That being said, I am looking forward to APBs return.

Maybe the new MMO model can be this:
1) Company A dumps millions of dollars into an MMO and releases it before it's good, leading to fail.
3) Company B comes along, buys it on the cheap and sinks a few more million into it, turning it into a viable game.
3) Profit!
Erm...

APB wasn't 'bad', it simply ran out of money. They just overspent when creating it and couldn't pay the money back in time, and were shut down for it. I don't mean to say that it didn't have problems, it did, but those could've been fixed in due time and weren't going to be enough to bring down the game had it not needed to make loads of money in little time.

@kasapina It was setting up to be another Warhammer. Massive initial interest, followed by mass exodus when the major, major issues present drove all but the die-hards off. Time was something it didn't have. Unlike Warhammer I think it would have shut down within months anyway.
What we were left with in the end was a lot of aimbotting and a lot of repetitive misery, and that's the way it was going to stay for a long time. It probably never would have recovered. Giving it a second shot like this with a fresh perspective is exactly what was needed to get the game in for the long haul.
