At least the upcoming update will be adding several new end-game dungeons. I know at least one of them is solo and dynamic but all of them may be.

"Solo PvP in Age of Conan really isn't fun, at least when you're starting out"
Not really true, my time in hyboria ive played in a PVE guild and started to do pvp solo its hell fun, okay its not easy to start becuase of the premades and high geared players but it was always damn fun. ive reached pvp level 4 just going solo ganking in border kingdoms and minigames.

If they would ditch pvp they could focus on more pve content : )

Hmm new content x packs or new ballance nerfs ?

Be good at one thing or be half assed at many.

Good article, it speaks truth about the PvE 1-80 experiance, pretty much solo-able on any class toon. endgame content definatly requires a moderate sized guild. Little guilds are not much better off than solo'ers. I love AoC PvE and I enjoy raid content. I have found an awsome guild and it makes exploring this previously off limits content fun, despite this i resent being forced into a guild to do so.

As far as PvP is concerned, AoC just inst a PvP centric game, i fail to understand why any PvP players bother with AoC when there are far more PvP centric titles available.

Like others i would be happy to see PvP dropped completly in favour of greater development and fixes to PvE content. But thats just me, i dont PvP.

I really like how you talk about this game Jef.
Although I stopped playing a long time ago, I like to read your column.
I'm going to give this game another chance.

"Regardless of your views on whether or not solo gamers are the bane of MMORPGs, we can all probably agree that they're here to stay."

I can't think of any good reason for feeling that solo players are a "bane of MMORPGs". Solo players pay subs to support MMOs, just like everybody else, and they would most likely NOT be playing with you in your group regardless of how a given game is structured. The fact a heavily group-oriented MMO can hardly survive proves just the opposite, in fact: I think that attracting and keeping solo players is crucial to an MMO's survival and success.

I would be happy to see at least a couple of the standard-format MMOs out there (almost ALL of which restrict premium-content dungeon/instances to player groups) try reworking their dungeons to offer solo versions as well. I'd resubscribe to WoW or LotRO if either one offered solo-friendly versions of its standard dungeons.

Thanks for the good article, by the way. I have never defined "soloable" as the "ability to solo your way to the level cap" (i.e., "solo progression", as you put it). Most MMOs nowadays accommodate this. Rather, "soloable" really should be defined as "the extent to which content is accessible and playable by a solo player." By this definition, most dungeons/instances in most MMOs are off-limits to solo players.)

@Tom in VA

Yeah the definition of a soloable MMO varies depending on who you talk to. AoC is pretty solo-friendly except for the 80 PvP and the raids/Khitai 6mans. You just can't do any of that without the gear (which you can't really get solo in a reasonable amount of time).

I keep twirling my credit card around hoping that they make guild cities more customizable. They all look like clones of each other save for a few decors. So someone has a rock 3 meters away from the gate rather than 4.

It would be better if they had the guild banners lined up outside the gates so that when you approach it you could say "Ah! This is my guild city." Rather than having to look at the map for confirmation thinking "Yes, this is where it was. I'll be able to open the gate... the gate that looks like everyone else's gate."

Furniture and places for people to actually LIVE (kitches, tubs for bathing, etc) could all give extra bonuses.

It's so sad that they have the foundation for one of the best player housing out there and the only real big difference is the culture room which is INSTANCED and hidden away from view. It's such a shame. They did an amazing job with them and yet... hid them. =/
