Drops in any MMO are sometimes a frustrating business. You can kill an enemy for its head, a clearly visible part of its body, and yet no head is dropped when it dies. You can kill a boss dozens of times before you finally get its weapon, even though that weapon is visible each time. And in Final Fantasy XI, you can fight an Ironclad Triturator without getting any sort of iron plates, despite the fact that he's both visually and eponymously covered in them. But as the latest round of questions and answers states, that's a temporary problem -- the February mini-version update will fix this oddity.
That's not the only change forthcoming, naturally, and one of the other issues addressed is the sometimes frustrating art of fishing. Rusty equipment is going to stop eating up the potentially expensive bait in the February update, and directions for fishing will be changed to provide more useful information for players. Take a look at the full rundown for more information about what's coming with Final Fantasy XI's upcoming mini-patch, with promises of a more comprehensive schedule in the near future.

Wow... when the game is really slow that's when they finally bring some concrete fixes to frustrating things in the game. Let me be clear, the FFXI team is awesome. They've crafted so much content and I had (have) a blast in FFXI. But it seems like all the things that pissed me off about the game are now being fixed. Good thing I've gotten back into it recently.

I know it's a little late, but I would love if they had some sort of alternative interface for this game that's more similar to other MMORPGs out there. There are so many things in it that just sound fun to me, but whenever I try it out I am so confused by the interface and menu system that I just never get that far in it.

All these great changes... but I keep feeling I have the same initial reaction each time... why didn't they do this 4 or 5 years ago? Why did it take so long to fix (not improve, FIX) all this stuff?

I played this game a llooooong time ago when those changes were needed. It was more of a job instead of a game that time. Dont think anyone I know plays it anymore.

I'm thinking about grabbing this while it's on sale at Gamestop's digital shop for $5. Massively doesn't happen to have a Linkshell on one of the servers do they.
