I hope you guys have fun in EarthRise, it'll be far and few between to see any one playing such a broken game. Maybe it'll be good in 6 months, if it lasts that long, I hate being the naysayer but, they have a long way to go just for the game to be playable. Good Luck...your gonna need it.

Hey, if Mortal can hobble along as long as it has, I would imagine Earth Rise can manage to keep their doors open for at least a year for some unknown reason.

I had high hopes of this one but will also be passing on it at least for now. My experience in the beta was pretty awful, even once I was able to play for more than 2 minutes without it crashing.

Their core game design is solid and I'm sure they'll sort out their problems eventually.

In the meantime the only good thing I can say about it is that it's panoramic. Right from the moment your character first enters the world it's visually stunning.

I have too much work to do this week unfortunately. But, I plan on picking up the game in about a week. I'll probably be happy I did because it might take that long for the servers to work correctly.

I'll probably pick up the game in a few months, depending on how it goes. Hope the launch goes well though.

This game is completely horrid, rigid, lag filled, and boring. I have played it during beta in debug mode as well as out of debug. The quests have no story, no direction, and no meaning! You go to guy A, the one with the ! over his head, he tells you go find guy B, the one with the ? over his head. Guy A does not say where to look, in which direction to travel, or what to expect on the way. You are set on a aimless adventure in God knows which direction looking for a guy that has a ? over him. I spent almost 30 minutes wondering around looking for guy B, found several ?'s but it was not guy B. If I wanted to buy a game to waste my time wondering around aimlessly, is would be the #1 pick on my list. Mobs can shoot through walls, rocks, the ground just about anything once you have gained agro, and their range is greater then yours at the same level. Masthead has been promising a fix, a patch, a server upgrade, just about anything they can to get the preorders and release day purchases up. My prediction is this is a Tabula Rasa version of APB don't see it lasting 6 months. The player base just wont put up with anymore excuses as to why their PvP lag ridden game is bad! It just is!!

More promises of the legendary "miracle patch"!? Ha! I remember hearing tall tails of that mythical beast way back in the days of the disastrous Anarchy Online launch! Don't these people ever learn?

@Saker Fan boys never learn. Their faith in the 'miracle patch' is unassailable no matter how many times it's proved to be pure fiction.

@Tredo I didnt buy this game because i wanted another easy mode game where NPCs and the map tells you off the bat where everything is.

Now, launch day has its problems. Some of the keys arent working, but im sure this will be fixed soon. It seems the bad PC performance carried over from beta. But they are working on a patch for it.

Im willing to give them a chance because they are making a title thats a pvp sandbox, something close to what Star wars galaxies was before it transformed into a giant mess.

It makes me smile when i see all the troll posts here about this game and the raving reviews for wowhammer 2.0 (Rift). Makes you wonder if some of the users are really independent users and not company shills.

Please don't remember SWG as a PvP game.
That's way too small a part of the vast experience that game was, to remember it for. That's like remembering Lord of the Rings Online for having elves in it.

Otherwise, I agree with your post.

One more thing... if you are looking for a great sandbox semi scifi game you need to look here.

www.xsyon.com

'Set in the near future, Xsyon is an apocalyptic fable. The world draws its inspiration from history, mythology, and prophecies of the Apocalypse. Most aspects of modern life are now gone. The leaders of the new world, under the guidance of the reinvigorated once forgotten gods, have hidden traces of the scientific progress that led to the devastation of the earth. Modern vehicles, weapons, appliances, computer and even the books that describe these things are practically nowhere to be found."

That game isn't even out yet and to be honest, it looks like varporware, or at least one of those perpetually-delayed shoestring budget games.

The lack of open beta puts me a bit off. It feels like they are hiding a bad quality game. I have bought games I thought were bad in beta. But at least I knew where the game was and what gameplay was like. This feels like going in blind, I'll skip this one until I hear more.

That.

Just smells wrong. Like it was too secretive and then bam!... "we're ready to launch, trust us!" The only thing I've seen are rabid fans who'd eat anything with PvP smeared on it right now and never, EVER trust a starving man. He'll tell you anything you want to hear just to get a morsel.

After seeing their promotional beta as the only actual gameplay, I'd have to trust my eyes than a promise.

I love it when people assume they have some kind of right to play a MMORPG in an open beta phase. Buck up little camper. Some developers actually run betas as betas. That means not everyone gets to be involved in it. Sorry.

What else would you expect from a pure PvP title?

@Ayenn Not sure I follow your logic here, what does it being a pvp title have anything to do with the availability of a free trial or not?

I agree it isn't common practice for a game to have a free trial right at launch, but it's also very common for many MMO players to wait for one to become available. One almost inevitably does, and when a game launches with such a rocky start, most players prefer to wait for one.

I myself will be following your updates on the status of the servers and the state of the game for a few weeks before I make a purchase. I think some of the game mechanics show promise, like the allocation of BP towards skills over standard MMO class systems and their claim of a complex crafting system. Those things however are still overshadowed in my mind by the state of other mechanics that I am not willing to just 'trust' they fixed in a patch before launch. I really want them to pull it together and get it right, but over the years I have learned to believe in results not promises from developers.

As of this moment I just reactivated my Fallen Earth account on a 3 month deal to fill my non-elf mmo cravings. A great example of a title that had great potential in alpha and beta and at launch was very difficult to get running smooth on my system then underwent massive changes after several months launched. Now I have gone back and started over and really enjoy what I am seeing.
