It looks like March 2013 is the latest expected delivery date for THQ's Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millennium Online MMORPG. Rock, Paper Shotgun reports that THQ told its investors the sci-fi opus should see the light of day in the fiscal year 2013, a period stretching from April 2012 to March 2013.
While news of the far-future setting has excited some fans, others are put off by rumors that the extensive faction roster from the source material is being distilled to a more MMO-palatable pair of opposing organizations. However it turns out, we'll have to wait quite a while it seems and content ourselves with the slow trickle of WAR40K news.

I feel like by 2013 this game will be outdated.

The Order and Destruction thing really makes it hard for me to be too excited about this game. I don't want cooperation. I want everybody trying to kill everybody! It's WH40k, damnit!

I still have faith in THQ's studio that is working on it. Yeah they have been a bit secretive about many things but we should be seeing more info later this year or next year.
Least they do have experience working with the IP in multi-player so they should have an idea as to what the MMO should bring.

2 factions? Did they not learn from WAR? This is Warhammer 40k. Necrons are NOT supposed to work with the orks, dark eldar, or chaos. The Space Marines are not buddy-buddy with the Tau. Stop trying to mimic Blizzard and make it what it should be: Never-ending war!

Kind of disappointed by the two faction thing. Still need to know what the races are though.

I am ok with development time lines since it is a reality. Let's wait and see what happens.

Agree with the majority (So far) a 40k game CANNOT be multiple races divided into 2 factions. There is no WAY you can pull that off without raping the lore.

You cant have 2 factions in this universe. Everyone hates each other!

Why do developer's find it necessary to announce game this early?....
This. SWTOR. Diablo 3. Bioshock Infnite. Guillermo del Toro's new game. And a bunch of others.
If you know for a fact that your game will not be out for for YEARS, what do you get by announcing it?
At a certain point, it's ridiculous to say you're building hype for a game.

@PrimeSynergy
Ah yes...stupid me. Investor call. Makes sense now.
Still, I stand by my argument to a certain extent. After a while, announcing a game too early to the general public is counterproductive. Look at SWTOR.
I'm excited for it, but it's forums, as well as the rest of the internet, is still full of speculation regarding what the game is actually like. The 'idea' of SWTOR has kind of gotten away from the reality of it if that makes any sense.
It's just SWTOR though, I'm using it as an example. A bunch of other devs and games are guilty of it.

Game after game, forum post after forum post, internet poll after internet poll - the same cycle is repeated.
The players say that the best pvp system they've experienced is DAoC - yet dev's insist on going with a 2 faction system.
We.
Want.
At least 3 factions in our pvp.
How hard is it to understand?

The Ultramarines movie [ http://www.ultramarinesthemovie.com ] was real ****, I wonder how they could even think about doing something like that...

@pid
I enjoyed the movie for what it was and at least they stuck to the lore - to say it was made by an independent studio with their own cash it was a pretty big risk and a good effort - I just hope they make a profit so they can make a better one (and accordingly I bought the collector edition to support them), but I don't think they will. If Ultramarines doesn't at least break even you'll never see this IP on film in any way for at least another 20 years.
You'll never see a Hollywood movie of this IP unless they find a way to stick in a love interest for space marines and make the whole thing less grim, and nobody wants that except clueless LA producers who'd probably take even worse liberties. And GW don't have the liquidity or ambition to make a better quality movie of it themselves - they realise WH40K isn't really a mainstream IP, as popular as it is in geekdom (it's probably my favourite IP).

yep 3 factions at least...
imho what they should've done is call the MMO: Warhammer 40k: Sector and make 3 "starter" factions - Imperium, Orks and Eldar... I know very cliche but it's basically the 3 "standard" races in W40K... and then add more factions in expansion sets as other races join the fight for the sector...
that Order and Destruction BS was a horrible idea both lore and gameplay wise when WAR was made and it's still a fracking horrible idea both gameplay and lorewise...

The big issue regarding factions isn't really the lore angle (although that is still a massive issue, don't get me wrong).
It's been proven that two factions simply doesn't work in a PvP MMO. A huge proportion of WAR's issues can simply be laid at the feet of their decision to go with only two factions. The server imbalances and cascading subscription cancellations is not something I ever want to see repeated.
Planetside and DAOC worked great with three factions.
For the love of god THQ don't go down the two faction route.

I Wouldn't expect this game to have Playable 'nids or necrons - neither really lend themselves to progression based character development.
All the faction crying is amusing - especially considering nobody even knows how large a role pvp will even play in this game yet.
Besides, 2 factions or 10 doesn't really matter (lore quibbles aside) the gameplay mechanics need to be spot on in order for this game to succeed. WAR could have had 20 factions and the outcome would have been the same.
For the lore standpoint... there are sweeping changes coming to the 40k Universe (They Undying God-emperor of man....well he's going to die....)

I would hope PvP would be the main focus of the game. It would certainly be odd for people to play a WH40k MMO and be turned off by fighting with other players.
