Seems the September launch rumour is looking like more than just a rumour.

@ThePenIsMightier I dont know, if I wanted my MMO to succeed, I would not release it for the Holiday season against Mass Effect 3. Because a lot of people will have to decide ME3 or TOR. And that is not good business.

@adfoam

Good thing you aren't in charge of marketing.

Grandma doesn't know what the fuck a Mass Effect is. Grandma knows what Star Wars is and that all the kids love it and it's being promoted all over.

Shorts are just a clone of pants... no one will ever wear shorts!

500k is caek, imo they'll sustain a high sub count than that.

The game will get 1-2 million subs in the first month. Then it will slow down but by the end of 2011 it'll have 3-4 million subs.

It's funny how some of the WoW kids here reckon TOR will struggle to sell half a million boxes when even hoary old broken down SWG sold a million boxes itself. If you WoW kids can't extrapolate from that why your argument is wrong, you need to go back to school.

@beskar

SWG was pre WoW.

@beskar I can tell by your language that you must be a mature, non-WoW player who realizes that a subscriber base of 12 million would all think alike.

Idiocy aside, I am quite sure there are many WoW players who think that TOR will reach its required subscriber base. I myself am one of them. Not to mention, I am someone who is not overly sold on TOR. I just recognise that Bioware is a great game development company that many people respect and that there are a lot of Star Wars fans out there. Put the two together, and I would not be too surprised to see over a million subs.

Please don't generalise people. It really only serves to show you for a moron.

@(Unverified) And maybe you need to learn what a sentence means when it begns, "It's funny how some of the WoW kids..." Because, see the word, "some"? That means... well... "some". It doesn't mean "all", which is what I'd need to be saying if I was actually generalising. So, nice try, but your impotent little rant just fell on deaf ears, because I know what i said, and I know what I meant. and, if you can't comprehend English properly, there's nothing I can do about that.

@beskar Obviously, you are not as "deaf" as you would have us believe or you wouldn't have responded in the first place. The qualifier "some" does indeed mean only a portion of a whole. But you also stated "of the wow kids," and later "If you wow kids..." Here you are implying that all wow players are some how of a lower maturity level than you are (which, ironically, goes in direct contrast to the childish insult).

That being said, you might not have meant to say that all wow players are childish, but as you don't specify it leaves it open for interpretation. Please choose your words more carefully. For now I will give you the benefit of the doubt and admit I was at fault.

Speaking as a Star Wars fan, I won't be buying this on launch. I wish they spent less money on Blur and instead gave us better in-game videos that show how exciting gameplay can be, like Guild Wars 2. Only then would they get my money on launch day.

in case someone doesnt know, its 500k.....for 10 years LOLOLOLOL. thats some seriously retarded shit.....

considering the gameĀ“s lifespan a more down-to-earth 5 years, that would imply keeping over 1m a month, every month, for that 5 years.

I dont even think this WoW in space hold 1m by the end of the first year LMAO.

epic crash and burn ahead guys!

Shouldn't you be trolling the WoW forums instead? No really. I'm sure you're a great asset to the WoW community and have contributed to make it what it is today.

Bioware will make a massive amount from initial sales due to the Star Wars IP. After that it's down to the game itself.

Whenever I see anything about SWTOR, I always get the impression it is a single player game. Listening to the developers, I just keep hearing about your story and the cinematics. For me a MMO is about the people around you, that's what makes a MMO, not some cut scene with dialogue, quite frankly I don't care about cut scenes with dialogue. I hope i'm wrong, but we will see.

As for Rift, this is a straight copy and paste from WOW, it screams WOW to me. Yes I know that WOW ripped off EQ.

Ohh what I would give for a triple A MMO that looked beyond the standard WOW model. Eve online just with a fantasy setting.

You can expect the game to easily reach 500,000 subscriptions, and over a million is also easily doable when your dealing with the following that Star Wars has. The game is being developed by Bioware, which I'm sure wouldn't take on the project unless they knew they could produce an amazing final masterpiece. Why ruin the excellent name they have built up. Their games are of the highest quality.

People who are saying that they need to worry about other games, such as Rift, Tera, and others - have it backwards. Those games should be worried, as they are going against a top quality company and a huge brand called Star Wars.
