Did you know that Funcom's The Secret World was due to release "in the next few months?" We didn't either, nor apparently did Funcom despite a published report to the contrary in The Montreal Gazette. The article touches on Funcom's relationship with Electronic Arts and its disappointment with Age of Conan's performance relative to World of Warcraft's. It also intimates that The Secret World (developed at the company's Montreal studio) is nearing completion.
"This must have been a misquote or a misunderstanding of some sorts. We have never communicated a release date for The Secret World," said a Funcom spokesperson in a statement to Eurogamer earlier today.
Development on The Secret World is ongoing, and the game features a co-mingling of contemporary horror, conspiracy, and fantasy elements with Lovecraftian themes and skill-based progression.

Spell check: "It also intimates that"..lol
Bah anyone who believed that article is a fool to begin with, hell it wasn't that long ago they announced their partnership.

Yeah, really no need for a spell check. Maybe a vocabulary check, as someone pointed out below.

@DemonXaphan Jef replied very politely. Could we all stop being useless copy editors though. The writers on this blog have a job for a reason, including having a command of the English language.

If you weren't an obvious troll then maybe people would take your comments more seriously. But probably still not. Let me guess, you didn't enjoy AoC two years ago and you still feel the need to bitch and moan about it at every opportunity? Get over it already.

@rznkain "Doubt it matters if they release in 3 months or 3 years. Most of us who been around mmogs know funcoms reputation and how they treat there customers this will be nothing but another crash grab,DIrtiest and rudest mmog maker in the industry they make SOE look like saints. "
Sadly, I agree. I actually really liked Age of Conan and played it regularly when it first came out, but over time lost interest. Cancelling an account via Funcom was not a fun process, esspecially when you had a billing error that needed to be handled. They were waaay worse than SOE lol.
The Secret World does have me very interested though - i am dying to get into a beta to check it out.

Don't bash people for still being mad about AoC. It was, and still is, a horrible game. The Secret World isn't shaping up to be any better.

@smg77 I will not play SW, and AoC was a delusion, yes. FunCom did not behave well especially the hype before release ("WE CAN DO EVERYTHING WITH THIS!!!", but it seems they did nothing with it) was sooo totally destructive to their name, they still have to recover from their own blow. But SW? how can you say it's bad if you didn't see it, yet? That's like saying "oh no, Star Trek Online is doomed because Cryptic put it's hand on it".... .... oh, well. now I see the point you are making. Bad names stay bad in the business. forever. That's so because people DO NOT FORGET, despite efforts of companies. Funcom and Cryptic and whoever tries to take advantage of customers should remember that: people do not forget!

Intimates as a verb means to suggest or imply. It's a fact! And possibly some people's Word of the Day.

@misterlee try again I played AO from day 1.I seen first hand how funcom lies and releases junk products to cash grab I am sure I have 1000% more knowledge than you.Anarcy Online release need I say more? then Shadowlands where they didn't have the last 2-3 zones done therefore rather than admit it they lied and claimed the items needed for the key were just really rare drops until after 2 weeks they finally had to cave in and admit that they left them out of the game due to those zones not even being finished.
Then lets move on to Alien Invasion a expansion built around having your own in world shop all over the expansion box,.all over there ads yet not in game and active until NINE months after they sold the expansion.
Age of conan well I don't have to even say anything about that.Next time think before you put your foot in your mouth.

You know, not 2 days ago I was agreeing that people who wanted reasoned comments and relatively little haters vs fanboys type posts should read Massively. Huh.
TSW is not AoC. Funcom made people angry. TSW is aware that people dislike Funcom.
Anything else worth while?
Smg77: what are you basing your comments on? There's not been much of TSW revealed so far....

I came back to AoC in April of 2010 and play every day since last year. I absolutely love the PvE content. I love the combat\combo system over other MMORPG's that I have to press 1...wait for it...wait for it...press 2...wait for it. With AoC my combat is sheer bliss and I can eat hearts in game as well as play with mature content. Leveling is now fixed from 1-80 now. The god slayer section is a grind but so is every MMO. AoC reminds me of old EQ days. Nor is AoC a dumbed down MMO like WoW. No offense to the WoW community. The AA skill system simply rocks. The engine upgrade on the test server is improving with every update. And new content is coming. The art work has never digressed. Plus this producer actually engages the community with PM, twitter, emails, and face book. Areas of improvement that do need to happen are PvP, loading times, some bugs, and the grind in the expansion. There is a ton of content in the game for PvE.
As far as the secret world goes- it will come out when it’s ready. And as far as EA goes...stick it! AoC is a fantastic game. I hate EA’s version of disappointments. If EA had it their way everyone would have a microchip credit card in their head and every time you think of a game you would have to pay them a fee. Not really…this is just sheer sarcasm to remain PC.

I think you'll find a lot of people who came back to AOC with the promise of a refreshed game (the promise came from Funcom via an email) and all we got was the same crap. Funcom refused to listen to people in beta, refused to fix known problems and still released a buggy horrid game. It's hard to convince anyone who was burnt by that to change their opinion and buy into their new release.
Add to this the horrible customer service, the billing problems people had (I recall players being charged $2000+ by Funcom for 1 month), and you can understand why people are still pissed at the whole situation.

Well... AOC was indeed a quality product at release, but the truth is, it was nearly unplayable. I tried my best to acknowledge the game for what it was, but the MANY bugs, crashes and troubleshooting were just too much to handle, I spent nearly has much time on forums trying to solve them than in the game.
Such impressions last long, sadly.
A few months ago I decided to give it a second try after all that time. I created an herald of Xotli (one of the most original class ever thought for a mmo, I respect aoc just for that), and after my first transformation... when my character reverted to human form, he was bald. After TWO years, this bug hadn't been resolved... it pushed me back to the disapointment I felt on the release and so I uninstalled it...
To sell a game, good marketing may be usefull, but I really think that if you release a quality product (from day one), the internet will spread the word for free faster than any add.
Just my opinion though, I don't mean to offend any AOC player. Every game have it's fans for a reason after all.

I agree with you. I too, don't want to offend nobody, but I have to be aggressive. Those companies have to understand that they cannot treat their customers like sheeps. I lost REAL MONEY on them because of FALSE PROMISES made in marketing campaigns. This is absolutely intollerable and it's the interest of every single gamer to voice out discontent. There are good products and bad products. But this is not to debate. There also are truthy, held promises. And then there are lies. What makes me angry are not bad products. But the lies........

If anyone thinks a company is worse than SOE go check out Magic the Gathering: Tactics. This new gem that SOE just put out about 2 weeks ago has already lost over half of its player base. They refuse to make an official response to any of the posts that point out problems and concerns that the players have. Posts have gone 10+ pages deep, and there are a lot of them.
GG SOE, way to screw a good IP up. I am surprised that WoTC is even allowing them to continue keeping the game up. SOE is bastardizing yet another IP.

@rznkain Going to agree with you. First they fooled me once with one of the worst MMORPG launches (WW2 Online was probably the only one I can think of that was worse) in Anarchy Online.
But we forgave them, since it was the 'early days of mmorpgs' and their first.
Then they gave us Age of Conan that not only failed shortly after launch but also despite their so called renewed focus on improving the game still sucks more than goats balls.
