The mentioned changes to the chat system were underwhelming. The system is a huge clunky mess that goes beyond what default channel you're in.

Looks like they have completely missed the point of the problems people are havign with the chat system. If they really think the problem is selecting what chat channel we are in they are VERY VERY sadly mistaken.

They need to fix the chat window itself, make it scaleable, allow more than one chat window to be open at once and being able to adjust the size of the text.

@mmogaddict
And these were all things we pleaded/begged/screamed for in beta.
"Victims of our own success..." Seriously? Well, only on the PS3, maybe. Gah. The UI is just awful -- and that alone should have been a showstopper for another month.
"We have a fast-to-max-level game because we want to get everybody in there and doing fun stuff." No, it's a fast-to-max-level game because they don't have enough content and they were (rightfully) afraid to leave the gaps in levelling uncovered by weak XP (ala Champions Online at launch).

6-12 more months... minimum.

I really enjoyed DCUO during my time with the beta, but decided not to buy for launch due to the numerous issues I encountered. Granted, they were not game breaking, but just annoying and I felt they should have held off just a few more months to really launch with a solid build. Now however, something else is bothering me. All through beta and during the marketing they kept saying monthly updates, monthly updates monthly updates for new content. Now I read this interview and he says:
The main focus is that we hit quality [rather] than making sure we hit every four weeks.

If that is the company position, why is it not being said quality rather than staying on schedule? I respect wanting to put out a good product, but why did that not apply to the launch? The messages being sent are varying.

Granted, I still think DCUO has great potential and I actually enjoyed it enough that I am going to buy a copy, but I have been waiting to see what they do with the issues I saw in beta and more importantly how the 'monthly' content updates go.

That statement just really stuck out to me, quality over schedule all the sudden.

This is exactly the type of content update I was hoping for before having to decide whether to subscribe at the end of my 30 days. If they get it out before then, I might just have to pick up the lifetime subscription.

I still want my /league chat working though (if it is still broken). I just don't think fixing the bugs and adding content are mutually exclusive. Seems like it would be two different work groups and the labor might not be that fungible. If my companies accounting department was having payroll problems, we couldn't just send people from our human resources department to help.

So quick question I hope someone can help me with. I used a friend's buddy key, and there's a disclaimer in the fine print that I MAY lose any time included in certain boxes. Can anyone speak to losing their 30 day trial?

Would love to keep my toon from the trial, but I do have a second station account I used for the beta just in case. Thanks in advance.

@DraneceusRex Probably best to just call their customer service and ask them that. Or ask on their forums, assuming they have a customer support forum.

As Itoao pointed out, they seriously need to fix the PvP exploits and fix the UI issues (mainly chat, and loot windows). Luckily, the combat and powers themselves are the most fun I've had in an MMO in quite some time, but if they don't fix these bare essentials of an MMO many will not resub.

So basically all they are doing with regard ot the chat system is allowing us to remain in the channel that we have just used and change it when we want. Big deal.

Seems like they are playing and concentrating on the PS3 version predominantly which is not good for PC optimisation and the future of the PC version.

I love the game and am enjoying it a lot at the moment but I see a point soon where the missing or under-developed features will result in me and a lot of others leaving unless they fix them soon and stop putting them off until "next month".

this guys just seems to talk out the side of his mouth. He says "So basically we are victims of our own success...." in regards to the chat system. No, no success about it, the chat system is a full fledged steaming pile of crap. It was obviously not well thought out, and completely tacked on and shipped busted from the start. Chat channel defaults are far from the major issues with it.

Second, in terms of the "We have a fast-to-max-level game because we want to get everybody in there and doing fun stuff..." I'm calling utter bull$h!t. As has been said by many, on the forums and off...the leveling up in this game IS the fun part, and it is quite a brief journey. But once that Journey ends, you are suddenly playing a very different game than the one you were playing while leveling. You are thrown into the hamster wheel grind for gear, by doing the same content you previously experienced over..and over again.

The itemization on gear is horrid, and the thought that you will need to run a minimum of 80 "successful" hard mode alerts to acquire that tier gear he speaks about... well.. how about no. And what makes it worse, is being that many of those playing on the PS# version are new to MMO's, anyone who actually plays through the game could tell you how horrible they have done in presenting to these new players game mechanics that are essential to people who hit the cap, and have no idea about how to play their chosen class role. this has caused many to become frustrated to the point of quitting, and this is only the minority on the boards that we are aware of...how many more who dont even know of the boards since SOE does so poorly in bringing the community together...?

Speaking of community, The forums are completely void of it, the community manager is simply a mod and all they do is close negative threads. As far as fostering community, information sharing and such as in other MMO's, they do little to nothing. Per their community manager, they want to do that within the game...yet the tools in game make communication difficult to say the least.

And as for this update, it's nice, but fixing the issues plaguing the game would seem more important, besides, this update contains much stuff that was simply pulled from release, but was in during beta... so the jury is still out on whether they can pull off this monthly thing, but his comments above, of quality over on time...that should have stuck to that before releasing this to the public. Now, it's simply convenient for him to say this, to start padding his future excuses for why content isn't hitting the 4 weeks delivery time they hyped up all along.

I've enjoyed the game, for the leveling, but pay to play after that point is not worth it. If you're on the fence, I'd say wait a few months and see where it is then, but presently, them charging a premium fee same as other MMO's, but providing less than free to play service is a bit arrogant.

But then again, this is SOE we're talking about.

Isn't that the same guy who said in a YouTube video that releasing this game without "secret identities" would render it "not a full realization of the DC universe" because they were a "key pillar" of a game like this?
