For me, there will be plenty of thrill as soon as they say Mesmer...

Agreed. My first character was a mesmer, and I plan to play one in GW2 also. I'm really excited to see how the profession will have changed.

I figured there would be a class like this. A few of my predictions were a little off but for this most part, I was thinking there would be a defensive, magic-based soldier class. The reason is, that the warrior has pretty much every "heavy armor physical damage" archetype covered, being able to use shields, dual wield, use two handed weapons, and even bows and guns. They announced that there would be two heavy armor classes, so the other would pretty much have to be a buffer/magic user. The classes in this game cover a broad range of playstyles and archetypes, which is a good thing in my opinion, but in terms of "originality" I suppose they are lacking a bit, but they kind of have to in order to deliver such a wide range of abilities within each class. Honestly I would rather just know what they are, or in most cases "confirm" what we already know than have them trying to hide a secret that everyone has already found out about.

As for remaining classes, we pretty much know one will be an assassin type class, one will be a mesmer type class, and the other will be either a gunner or ritualist type class. I think one of the remaining two adventurer classes will be the only one that's remotely surprising.

@Maraq

From Edge of Destiny. The sylvari in the group (I forget her name) is the epitome of assassin/rogue. Her preferred weapon is a stiletto dagger to which she basically uses to find all of the opponents weak points and exploit them as well as being exceptionally nimble and stealthy. Another charr further on in the book was 'hamstring'ing opponents and, again, using opponents weak spots.

I do kind of miss the pure shock/joy from seeing a class reveal that I was not expecting pop up, though as you said, it's a lot different at this point. If everything falls as the fans have predicted then there is really only one class that is an unknown (vs. the supposed mesmer and assasin type classes for which there seems to be artwork, and information in the novels).

If I'm hoping for anything concerning the last 3 reveals, it's for A-Net to get their damn blog posts out before anyone spoils the surprise on them. It was exciting knowing that they were going to reveal a new class this month, but to have the info on what class it was come out early was a bit disappointing. They do a very good job on those posts, and I like seeing ArenaNet's take on it first.

That being said, I'm still very excited to play a guardian, and I'm glad the class appears to be what I was hoping it would be.

secondarily.. have any of you read the 2nd book yet? I'm not done with it (it's not a big book but I keep getting side tracked) however at one point early on one of the characters uses the term "Beta Test" to describe something they intend on doing...

not test.. not experiment... not try out or trial.. it specifically "Beta Test", which has me wondering if we'll see the beta begin later this year? I recall reading somewhere that there are supposed to be 3 books before game launch (can't remember the source of that, sorry) and so far they're doing about a 6 month or so lag between book 1 & 2.

Well I've been on teh GW2Guru forums lately, and the speculation and accuracy of their predictions is amazing.

They had the Guardian almost perfectly figured out before its release, with a few minor differences, mainly the virtue system. But they even figured it would be a Prot Monk+Paragon+Ritualist.

THough while I agree the suspense is a bit less, its still suspenseful, I think just the sheer fact people are going out of their way to figure it all out before hand shows people are busy wracking their brains over it.

And with only 2/3 last remaining classes prophecized, the 3rd and final class has 0 information on it. No artwork hinting it, no mentions in the books, not a peep. So the final class will be the biggest surprise package.

Currently teh assumed release order will be: The Renamed/Altered Assassin -> Mesmer -> FInal 3rd Adventurer.

I'm excited about the info ArenaNet has been offering us but the wait has been a long one. I think alot of fans are at the point now where fans just want to play Guild Wars 2 instead of ArenaNet teasing us with more info.

Ten paragraphs on how the classes of an unreleased game are being announced to the public? Man, you GW people are hardcore... or something. ;-)

No Rubi the thrill is not gone! Still plenty of info left besides the 3 unnamed classes left to find out. Still so much left to explore new lands, and skills, crafting, any surprising bosses..etc.
Even though i'm licking my chops at the assassin/rogue reveal, there is still that little school boy giggling in the back of my mind.

To me I get the feeling that it was mostly due to the fact that it's a support class. It's hard to get excited about something that's mostly protecting teammates. Maybe a more exciting class reveal in the future will get peoples blood rushing more. *coughgunnerclasscough*

I'm not one for hype or anticipation. I'm just happy to get reveals. I'll be even happier when the reveal is mesmer.

Yeah, anybody who read the books knows a great majority of the remaining class reveals. According to the books, mesmer is definitely in as the Queen called the magic she used "mesmerism", assassin/rogue is definitely in (as there were TWO characters showing those type of skills... the sylvari in Destiny's Edge, and also one of the released charr). The only one still up in the air is the character of Snaff... what is his profession? Golemancer? Engineer? Thats the only one without a real definition or name yet... (and will most likely be the one I play...).

But really, despite us knowing the classes ahead of time, the name is just the name... the abilities/playstyle are what is Really important, so its not just the name, its the videos, the class specifics, the images that get all the attention. The reason this reveal turned out a little lacking is because its like a class we've all seen in every game out there... very paladin-esque, where the paladin was hackneyed before WoW used it...

Everyone knows what the professions are even though Anet hasn't announced them bluntly.

You should know Rubi being a Guru member. I think out of the remaining professions the real surprises are going to be any drastic changes to either the mesmer or assassin, which ever has changed the most.

But the real eye catcher is going to be the second new profession that everyone insists will be the gun using class. That could be anything and nothing is certain on that one. So it'll arrive on the scene IMO with a real BANG. (pun intended lol)

Im a bit down with regards to the class reveals mostly due to the feeling that the more classes they reveal the more i think there may not be a class that is a "perfect match" for me. Don't get me wrong, all we've seen so far is great but i feel like they lack something to hook me. I have all my hopes riding on the new and improved mesmer (or a new and improved mesmer) and im a bit anxious about the whole thing.

Playing an MMO is like being a relationship. When you first see the MMO it's love at first sight, or at least lust at first sight. OMG, there she is, she's BEAUTIFUL. I must have her. (Male point of view since I'm male, but you get the idea).

Then you start finding out about her, and she's still special. That's because the hype comes before the flaws, or your blinded to the flaws, because you can't get past your desire for this new MMO, which looks just awesome.

Now, I'm not saying GW 2 is flawed. I'm saying ALL GAMES have flaws. Or at least, call games will have areas of incompatibility with all players, as they learn the game. I love Guild Wars, but there were areas I could have lived without. And I think an auction house would have changed the game for me in a lot of ways, because I hate standing around Spamadan. I'll play GW 2 just for the auctionhouse. lol

Anyway, after all the dating, and finding out good and bad points, you start seeing the person/game for who they are. The mystique may have worn off, but game itself is not the mystique. And then again, playing the game is different from learning about it.

It's my contention that you won't really fall in love with Guild Wars 2, until you've consummated the relationship. Once you've played the game, you'll know that it's the one (or at least the one for that time in your life).

Should I still be head over heals in love with a game I haven't been intimate with yet? Probably not. But the anticipation will make the game that much better.

We already know that there is next - gunner, assassin and mesmer. The name of the first 2 is not exactly that but should be close. Nothing too ground breaking in their abilities I would assume. The Mesmer is sure for its name but most fantasize differently what it can do besides crowd control.
I for one wait more for the race abilities! Sylvari nature skills are going to be my go no go ... I don't see a Druid anywhere and Ranger are definitely not that.

I don't think they'll be a gunnar class. I really don't. Rangers and warriors will use guns. Mesmer is a given as a assasin, but for the last class I'm assuming rogue. I don't think rogue and assassins will be the same class, because Dugal Keane from the first Guild Wars novel is nothing at all like Caith. Caith is a combat specialist, Dugal was a locks and traps specialist. I have no idea why people think a gunnar class is coming.
