I think it's time WAR goes F2P. I think it's run it's course and could benefit from a fresh 'relaunch'. I for one would be thrilled for this and would be interested in playing again. Just not for $15 a month.

...perhaps then, they'll become the Led Zeppelin of F2P's.

Sounds to me like the "new focus" is indeed F2P.

my account expires 9th feb. and today I logged in, played 1 hour and got so bored I had to exit.
I don't know if F2P would change it for me, but the main resource to handle is not money, it is time. when I have 1 hour of time I prefer to play on a P2P but with all the thrills instead of "wasting" it on a less than attractive title even if it's totally free.
that boredom is in part due to server population and in part to the fact that recent products (RIFT beta) outshine WAR on all fronts.

Server merges + F2P. It would benefit the game. I enjoyed it a lot just needed more people to play with. Also, still too many bugs but F2P might be able to fix those if they do get more revenue.

4 new Live Events this year, Server Merges, and if we're really lucky, cross-server queuing.

You guys really need to lay off the F2P kool-aid. They've said it plenty of times before that it's not going to happen, at all, ever. UO and DAoC aren't F2P, what information are you F2P junkies gleaning that the rest of aren't?

I think that this move is brilliant on their part. If there ever was a time to try and reinvigorate peoples like in a game now is that time. There are many WoW players that are disheartened, and Cataclysm sales actually were not as good as Blizzard is saying.
If I were a Dev, I would be taking advantage of how disheartened WoW players are by Cataclysm, even if it meant a 100,000 new members.

Here are more of my thoughts which relate to these changes:

@doublerainbow umm....CAT broke records for Blizzard. That's no lie. If some people are annoyed at WOW it is probably because they have played it for forever, like me, and it eventually will get old.

@The Minn

Thats where im at right now, me and my gf just decided that we think we have been playing wow too long and its time to quit. We can barely bring ourselves to play a month at a time.

Time to test new waters, and seeing warhammer going f2p would be something interesting. Hope it pans out.

@The Minn : I think doublerainbow is another one of those idiots who think Blizzard would lie about their revenues on SEC filings just to stick one up the haters on internet forums.

I left this game over low population issues, and mythic's only option for me to get on a higher pop server was to transfer my toons. With transfers at $20 a toon it just felt like too much money for me to fix a problem the devs should resolve.

This has little to nothing to do with F2P, aside from the fact that the F2P mini-game of T1 has, more or less, driven away most new players evaluating the game for purchase.

Warhammer isn't dying, it's dead. I am not a doom-and-gloom person, by no stretch of the imagination, but let the facts speak for themselves:

- Carrie was first supposedly "working on other properties alongside WAR", then "her role changed", then she changed her social networking profiles to completely remove WAR from them. A game without a Senior Producer? When the community inquired, idignant responses were all that could be had.

- For-sale leveling? Real money to buy your way from 1 to 40? Bad move.

- The last "news" item on the Warhammer frontpage is from last September, a link to "Return to Warhammer" which never got any traction. Even with a big push to get people back, few did. At the same token, the "Producer's Letter", the last of which was three months prior to this one, is any kind of indication that there's any thought about the further development in the heads of EAMythic. And this one is all "we'll do something new, can't tell you precisely what, but there'll be new," marketing gobbledygook.

- Recent in-game changes supposedly stopping AFK botting are extremely punitive and make tactical game play impossible. More than one complete guild has left Gorfang for other games over this. Losing the very foundation of what the game is built on, high-RR guilds, is a nail in WAR's coffin that can not be pulled.

- No content at 40. It's the same scenarios over and over, as well as keeps. If you thought Cataclysm's low content was bad, seeing everything in two weeks and then just doing dailies, heroics, and raids, try Warhammer and do the same battleground/scenario forty times in a row.

- The "true" progression in WAR is in RR, the PvP rank. RR 1-65 are easy prey to anyone, making it extremely painful to get even there. 65-80 means being two-shot with no real defenses against anyone above 80, and 80-100 are a grind-fest. Spending weeks, sometimes months, accumulating minimal amounts of RR due to being extremely weak means no enjoyment of the game. Once 100 is reached, only those who enjoy on preying on the weak remain, the rest is burned out and leaves.

- NO support for the remaining ambassadors of the game. EAMythic wildly flays, trying its luck with anyone and everything they believe can cough some new life and players into the game. Those who worked tirelessly to recruit and retain new fans into the game might be liked today but will be forgotten tomorrow. More than one fan site shut down after being left out for the next new shiny "best friend" of the Warhammer marketing machine, while the flavor of the month mouthpiece grabs exclusives to the detriment of the fan community as a whole. Not to mention the Games Workshop vs. Curse legal troubles which, without me stating my thoughts on this, put a "slight" chill onto new fan endeavors.

The players who left won't return and with Rift Beta and launch at the horizon and with SWTOR and GW2 launching this year I doubt they will get new players.I also don't see anyone leaving WoW to play WAR unless he/she is masochist.

This game needs a PVE overhaul. It's the most boring part of the game and it's weakest aspect. Hence it needs work.

@MMOaddict

Totally agree. Mythic has ignored PVE for last 2 years. BUT its to late now to do anything about it tbh. You can not ingore such a feature for that long. Thus any sort of PVE revamp now would do nothing for the game.

In other words... WAR is pretty much Doomed. And RIFT will finish it off.

1. Get rid of that crappy gamebyro engine because it looks horrible.
2. Fix the combat animations because it looks horrible.
3. Combat needs to be more fluid and less like a turn based combat
4. Real dungeon raids please where it is actually fun to do.
5. Make public quests fun so that people want to actually do them again.
6. Better looking loot. Some of the gear in Warhammer look horrible.
7. Get rid of fedex quests. Warhammer isn't about killing 10 bears.

That is my ideas on how make Warhammer better because just
adding content isn't good enough when the masses dislike the game as it is now.

Sooo.. ANother producer .. this one number 5 or 6 ?

Rest is same as before - Major news coming !! Nothing is said...

WAR lost it chance now - even as F2P they can not maintain any sort of momentum cause they have NOTHING to offer but PVP - and there are limited things you can sell ppl to buff up in a PVP game.

Basicly - the game has been taking a huge fall in ppl playing for the last 2-3 months and there is no way it can ever recover. It will be a skeletal crew maintainance mode game for few years - probably trying to milk something with F2P.

EVERYTHING was done wrong when it came to WAR. PPL in charge made tonns of horrible disissions and they are still doing it. This game would have had a chance as a free to play - one year ago. But not anymore. EA wanted to use it in its EA store tho.. for total garbage stuff priced at stupid prices - calling it packs. I called it ppl leaving in Packs! Cause thats how stupid it was at the time.

I think the main thing ppl need to realise now is that WAR has NO chance of getting new ppl in that will bother to play through RR 1-65 getting 1 or 2 shotted for 1-2 months. Thats how stupid the PVP RVR system is atm -thats why the first priority should have been to make a special warfront for rank 80 + so that others could actually enjoy playing instead of spending time dead on the floor.

Instead ... Mythic forced ppl to pay EXTRA for STILL beeing 2 shotted for 1 -2 months by even MORE powerfull RVR ppl... And they seriously think they maintain healty population of players ? Rofl...

RVR is a total and utter failure... It can not maintain stable player population - and it will get ZERO new ppl cause most new ppl have brains and know exactly what is happening.

F2P might bring in some nubs for the vets to kill... allowing the game to stay afload for few more months... But... Realise that the basic structure of WAR can NOT maintain healty playing population cause when you got 50% loosers... you will loose 50% of the playerbase. Fact !

They do need to put another tier in for +75's or something..even most of the high rr's that I know agree they need to be separated from from the lower ranks as it's carnage.

The lower tiers on the US servers when I was on them were dead..grinding through T2 and T3 was/is just agony which is actually a little easier now since last patch...server merges there have to happen.
On EU servers, T2 and T3 still have pretty big fights..enough for it to be fun anyway.

Someone mentioned they need to sort out the PvE but I don't know anyone playing that cares. Maybe it's because it's so poor that no-one cares but I for one don't care how good the PvE is, it's not going to be the reason I play WAR. I'm there for the RVR and SC's. Yes at times it can be boring doing the same SC but even then, it's still light years more interesting than PvE in any game...but that might just be me.

Not tried the PvP in Rift yet but the devs there seem to be nailing down what makes a good game and it's full of cool little touches. A lot of people I play war with are looking very closely at Rift.
