Having a wooden bucket on your head, to protect you from lethal blows of a giant ape, is always win. (first pic)

@ThorHal
Heh, I suppose it does look like a wooden bucket. The texture was originally, what, a studded leather cap? But EQ1 had a single texture per race for each armor type: cloth, leather, chain, plate. Monks' silk armor also used the leather texture in most cases, so, based on the lack of weapons and the textures on his hands, I'm guessing Mr. Slaythe is a human monk, not a buckethead.

I just want the progression server! Try and get a taste of those sweet memories of yesteryear! Waiting on details (and pricing) for this... Playing "evil" races was so fun in old EQ, having to watch-out around the "good" towns, and work up faction for them. To this day they still have the best mechanic for pet classes (imho) in the form of the Magician with his ability to summon different kinds of elemental pets depending on the situation. And being able to summon all the wonderful widgets! Great class! All the original EQ classes are still to this day the general yardstick that every other games classes are usually judged against. I'd love to play a original EQ style Shaman, or Druid also in any of these new-fangled games, but no one gets it so very right as EQ did! I still have some hopes that the in-development new EQ game will hold much more to the original then EQ2 ever did, and be a real sequel (don't try and re-invent the wheel $oE!)

Above everything else, I've come to realize just how crucial EverQuest was -- for better or worse, depending on your perspective -- to the development of the MMO genre for the past decade or so. If SOE never created EQ, just how different would our games be today? It's incredibly hard to imagine.

Point of order: SOE didn't create EQ, they bought it when it was more popular and profitable than anticipated and the company publishing it started shopping around for logistical support.

I hope massively is going to put together a guild to hit up the classic server when it launches. I for one, intend to go hard at it myself and EQ is best played amongst good company.

If you couldnt get into the closed club, or the game was just too overwhelming when you tried it, then here is your chance.
If you are bored with shallow games, join this progression server in March.

Dont be scared that it is an old game, it will not be the same game as it were in 1999 because the client will be new and other improvements - It is not GW2, it is not WoW, but eq has the ability to suck you in in a way no other game can. Be prepared for some grinding of xp, a bit of agony at times, and consequences for your actions - Eq would not be the game it is without this. Ask most eq players who tried other games after, and I bet they will no other game can compare to the Eq experience.

The SOE site is horrible and almost impossible to find any info about how to get started, but the game is good. For game mechanics and stuff I guess allakhazam is still the place to look.

I will be there, and I hope to adventure with oldies aswell as newbies in Norrath once again.

EverQuest is the best. I've been subbed since late 2002 and have no plans to quit. I have newer, prettier games on my desktop including Age of Conan, but this doesn’t imply Norrath isn’t filled with beautiful places too. Layer onto that years of memories, many of them very fond, and a community that is among the best MMO’ing has to offer.

It’s why despite the fact I run in several newer MMO’s, I consider EQ home, and I suspect I always will. My guild and alliance on Tunare-7th Hammer feels like family, which is experience I’ve been unable to duplicate in any other game. I am very tempted to hit the new progression server, if I can tear myself away from the grind on the home server, LOL.

I gotta admit, this is pretty awesome.

Unfortunately, I just don't have the kind of free time in my life that I did back in those days.
