While the lasting appeal is a bit "meh" right now, the game is still pretty fun. Besides, they're obviously working on some pretty good content in the future. The "MOVIES" folder that comes with the game has cut-scenes that aren't even in the game yet, and they seem pretty interesting too (I won't spoil anything, look at your own expense).

Meh. I've already quit, and my first month isn't even up yet. Waste of the initial $49.99.

Not surprising at all. Its the first SOE game to release since the hype train style blitz sales began to happen in 07ish. Now maybe we'll see EQ Next or Planetside Next get some real media light so they can also make sales. Rift will go the same way, massive sales followed by the usual return to people's "home" MMO.

Although not buying /playing yet, I'm following this with interest.

I think most of the PS3 crowd (myself included) are expecting alot of content updates and unless SOE follow suit, a mass exodus may result. Likewise if they don't get their chat working pronto. This could end up being my first console MMO.

I love the fact (in my area anyways) the PS3 version of the game is also 10 bucks more than the PC version..... regardless, I'd like to pick this up for the PS3, but only if I see that content roll in.

I wait to see what SOE has in store for the game before slapping some cash down for this title.

I'll bide my time in Champions F2P until I see what this game has to offer in a few months.

@Lugryn

Very smart, to wait.

With the amount of bugs, and the connection issues that are STILL in game and carried over from beta, it can become a real pain for some. Add in that their is minimal to zero communication from the devs on the boards, (the forums which are an unorganized mess).
The community has generally been ignored since launch, and getting any info on the game (tons of which has no documentation in that tiny little leaflet that game with the game), you are directed to various 3rd party sites because the official one is so inadequate. And the mods have stated that their 10 years of experience with forums has shown that the way they are doing it now is the BEST way.... BS. They are as condescending towards the community as that fat Cao in the interview i read on here, about why they have so little in terms of power sets/customization.

As for future content, the kind they said they would be doing monthly, I dont have high hopes. It takes very little time to complete whats there (which is repeated content for both good/bad guys) and the gameplay issues/bugs that existed in beta MONTHS before release, and still have not had fixes... throwing in new content now would seem unlikely...but, well, guess we'll see in 2 weeks.

@SFGamer69 You're completely wrong about the forums. I've posted two problems in the last week alone, both of which got near immediate response from a rep.... and the issues were soon addressed as well. So.... no.

Is good to read that the game is doing well in sales.
Let's see in 30 days and we will know how many actually stay
playing and paying for the sub.
IMO those are the real numbers.

As a hack-and-slash fan, it was inevitable that I'd purchase DCUO, and I've been really enjoying it so far in spite of its numerous flaws (and it certainly has them), but the combat system is what really appeals to me with this game.

It's not for everyone, granted, but preferences are subjective, after all, in that regard.

Very interesting to see the PS3 version outselling PC. I guess that shows just how console-focused the game is. Not that that's a bad thing at all. I'll consider subscribing in about 6 months maybe. For now I've got my Champions lifetime sub.

Smedley wirth his classic $OE spin. You notice that he does NOT give out any sales numbers? It is easy to say it is $OE's 'fastest' seller when you consider the last PC games actually sold were SWG in 2003 , which was released far too early and EQ2 in 2004, that also had a very troubled launch. It is not so impressive when given in perspective.

We saw big initial sales for both WAR and AoC before a big drop off a few months after launch. I hope DCUO has more staying power. Its combat is fast and fun. The artwork is beautiful. Gotham and Metropolis are huge. I think its continued success now hinge on more world zones, more content in general, and improved communication from the developers. (A server status page on the website and launcher would be nice, too.)

@Taawa

In responce to a thread in regards to additional forums, Radar X had this to say:

We've decided against server forums right now as it's not felt they provide enough value to justify a higher level of moderation. We've been doing MMO forums for more than 10 years now and have had plenty of practice. This was not a decision that was made lightly but based on how these forums have worked on half a dozen other games.

Currently, with the broken voice and clunky chat in game, the forums is the only other option, but that is a mess to sift through to find any info, because of the poor format it's in. go figure

Fastest selling SOE game ever? I suppose it's a bit of an achievement for anyone when they improve on a personal best but ....

.... given how poor most of their other offerings have been it doesn't seem that big a deal to me.

It's a decent game - definitely better than any other SOE game I've tried at launch. But it's not something I'd pay for and I wouldn't personally recommend it to anyone.

I'm still stunned by the extremely limited options when it comes to power selection (especially compared to CoH) and how terribly useless so many of them are.

I would like to say that I have been playing since launch and I am nothing but fully satisfied by the game.

I would recommend it to everyone, and I am glad to put my 15 into it. It combines all the elements I was looking for in an mmo.

Action combat, awesome style, a well told story, characters worth caring about, sweet pvp where level doesn't mean everything, great environments, solo and group content.

I'm very happy with my purchase. So much so that I went out and bought my first DC comic the other day. Identity Crisis.

(Just as they nay sayers seem duty bound to do their part to put down any game that doesn't fit them perfectly, I would like to make a call to the silent majority out there that do like the game to post on forums and websites. I'd hate to see this game go the way of WAR.)

@orso Just FYI, sometimes people complain because they too Love the game, they just want it to be even better. Just because you love something doesn't mean it can't get better. Or fixed if it's broken.

"I would recommend it to everyone, and I am glad to put my 15 into it. It combines all the elements I was looking for in an mmo."

Really? What about the total lack of communication available in game? Voice is forever broken, and chat is disgustingly clumsy.

"Action combat, awesome style, a well told story, characters worth caring about, sweet pvp where level doesn't mean everything, great environments, solo and group content. "

about the story... the same story, and missions played by both villains and heroes. regardless of mentor chosen, you do all the same quests, in a not so cohesive story that breaks when you start doing missions for other mentors. And the solo content you do from 1-30, is the same content you get to do as "Duo", just as the Alerts are the same just "harder". The only new things are the 2 raids.

Thanks for that link. I'm suprised the split is so close - I would have thought that PS3 would be much higher than PC.
