How's DC Universe Online performing after a week or so in the wild? Sony Online Entertainment hasn't released official sales or subscription numbers, but company president John Smedley recently stated that "it's our fastest selling game ever." Smedley delivered the news via his Twitter account, and also revealed that DCUO topped Steam's sales charts last week.
The title also seems to be exceeding SOE's expectations given the fact that Smedley alluded to a stock shortage. "Working on out-of-stock problems," he tweeted, adding that more copies of the game should become available early this week.
DC Universe Online is currently available for PC and Playstation 3, and you can learn more at the game's official website.
[Update: John Smedley updated his Twitter feed in response to questions concerning the PC/PS3 sales numbers. The PS3 is currently leading at 52%.]

Too bad the voice chat is broken.

@Omega2k3 Positive actually. The voice chat only seems to work when you log on at non-peak hours. I've had it work for me only in the mornings. When I log on tonight it will not work because the server pop will be high, and it's been like that pretty much since launch. It's 80% of what people talk about in /Shout chat as well. It's broken.

I would love to see a breakdown PS3 vs. PC sales for the title so far. Can one of you guys get right on that? :D

@Dlangar One of the Dev's on the DCUO forums commited on this. He said that both platforms are roughly the same as far as sales go. No one of them is greatly exceeding the other.
Also have to take into account both platforms have the same number of servers and both got another server or two added at the exact same time. So that should help show that the demand for both platforms is about the same. Otherwise why add another server or two for a platform that doesnt need it?

@Dlangar I'm guessing that the reply was regarding this topic, but John Smedley, Bio President of Sony Online Entertainment just said on Twitter that it's 52% PS3 and 48% PC:

The plus side to this is, maybe now, other developers and publishers will see that bringing MMO's to consoles could be good for business. I've only played MMO's on consoles (EQOA, FFXI, now DCUO), and I'd like to have more choices like my PC brethren instead of all the empty promises we've gotten over the years (LotR, DDO, Age of Conan, Champions Online, etc.).
The negative here is that, unfortunately, DCUO (while super fun when working right) is a broken game at this point. It's fun for anyone who wants to solo to level cap. But even for me and my girl in the same house, communication is near impossible, voice chat simply doesn't work, and there is a lot that needs to be fixed. I don't want other companies to go the "let's just dump it on PS3 and we'll fix it later on" route.

Communication impossible? Really?
How about typing... slowly...
Pretty sure you can handle that now can you.

It's an amazing game, I'm not surprised at all. Way to go, SOE!

Doesn't surprise me in the slightest, it's their only release to appeal to a mass instead of a minority.

Guess the people waiting for it to go F2P are going to have to wait a little longer. Enjoy your Champions though.

A great many MMOs sold very well in their first month.
A great many also lost a lot of people after the first month. Time will tell us how an MMO is doing, not early box sales figures.

Yeah, I'm waiting for the first few months. This is really good news though and gives me hope they should be able to continue throwing a decent amount of resources at it so live player feedback(i.e. the real beta) can make it into the game. I want this to be a good game but after CO, I'm not ready to jump into another super-hero MMO blind-folded.

Yup, gotta report this, but it means next to nothing in the great scheme of things. Subs after the second month is a much better benchmark.
