While we've given some column space to the heroes fighting crime in Gotham and Metropolis since the launch of DC Universe Online, today we wanted to spotlight one of the many villains who make it challenging. Why challenging? Well, if you play on a PvP server, you know all-too-well what it's like to get pounced while working toward a story object or when in the wrong place at the wrong time. That's the beauty of today's One Shots from Mourne -- it's just indiscriminate villainy. He writes in to explain: "I snapped this pic of my dual-pistol wielding villain, Slinger, ejecting brass. The graphics in this game look a lot better than I thought they would, and the cities are very immersive. My favorite part -- open world PvP is non-stop on PvP servers."
Whether you're a hero, villain, or something else entirely, we'd love to see what you're up to in your favorite MMO. Just email your image to us here at oneshots@massively.com along with your name, the name of the game, and a description of what we're seeing in the image. Please make sure your image is at least 1024 pixels across and has no visible UI elements showing. It could wind up being the next one we showcase here on Massively!

So, the game is unplayable on PvP servers. Good to know.

Yeah, I rolled on the PVP server and it's basically unplayable if you want to do anything other than PVP. And PVP is currently pointless in terms of character progression.
It's is fun for a few hours though.

@Urban Monkey. It's a lot of fun to go to a low level quest area that has lots of people and just start tossing big trucks around from the shadows instantly aoe ganking anything it hits as it tumbles around. Makes me laugh every time.
Don't see how anyone could get tired of that.

I don't know. All my characters are on PVP servers. They are all heroes, which are supposedly outnumbered and I have yet to have any serious issues leveling. Sure you will come across the occasional 30 smacking people down or the zerg of villains swarming an area, but that really only happens, oooh say 50 percent of the time. And besides you usually have more than one quest in your log, so if an area is busy go somewhere else for a bit, then come back. ....... or ........ go pve

Great pic! So, I am really curious, how is everyone liking the game?? Compared to something like CoH or Champs?
It looks like great fun!! But just dont have the money to "try" something I am not sure if I would be interested, ill wait till the trial but.

It seems pretty heavily split. Some of my guildies love it - one of them jumped ship on Champions for a while to focus on it. Some of my guildies tried it out and have pdecided to wait a few months to see how it shapes up. Some of them tried and it loathe it.
TLDR: CoX, CO and DCUO are all great games for different reasons, and they're unlikely all to appeal to you.

@Aquaryon I was expecting it to be terrible and generic but it's actually a LOT of fun. The combat is addictive and I'm surprised at how most of the gear upgrades actually fit or improve the look of my character (it's optional whether you want items to show up on your character or not).
The cities are very well done and fun to explore, making it feel like an open-world action game.
At the very least I'll get my $50 worth, but I'm not sure I'll keep subbing, only because there doesn't seem to be enough high-level content or side activities to keep me interested at this point. But the base gameplay is very fun and the whole thing is pretty polished for an MMO at launch.

Thanks guys!!! I really appreciate it. Yeah I played a bit of CoH, I liked it but WoW sucked me back in and I really enjoyed CO but non of my guildies were interested so I jumped ship (looking forward for F2P though). So hmm, I guess I'll wait and see if I could try it out some how or if the price drops.
Thanks again!

Hee hee…no real surprises here, that DCUO elected to go with a Dual Pistols build. That was among the icing on the cake for City of Heroes Going Rogue. Fantastic powerset, and if you team it with secondary sets like Devices and Traps, it is an absolutely excellent DPS assist to a team, and makes a beautifully effective soloist…may the DC version do the archetype justice.

Hey, works for me. If I can solo an EB with a powerset, I figure it's good enough. Once you get Trip Mines, the sky's pretty much the limit.

Pvp server here isn't very good unless you like to get smacked around. Soon there will be roving groups of 30s.
The best bet for a game like this is to go PvE server and flag when you feel like some open world PvP.
The reason is there are a lot of these things called "feats" that you have to do. Quite a few of them require you to fly around and look for these different colored ? marks all over. Then you land and collect it. Gonna be tough to finish that on a PvP server anytime soon.
The reason its important is for doing feats you get extra skill points to make your toon stronger. If it was just fluff I'd say the server didn't matter.

@real65rcncom If you're in a rush to get to end game, then you're right. Just roll on a PvE server. This is the first time in a long time that I haven't felt the need to rush myself. I am enjoying questing on a PvP server and constantly running into enemies. This is the first time in a while that I'm also enjoying world pvp. It might be meaningless, but at least I'm not being herded from base to base, then repeating it all day.
Like others have said... I'm not sure if I will continue subbing, but at the moment it's pretty damn fun.

ive made it to lvl30 on the most populated pvp server with relatively no issues. and normally i avoid pvp servers like the plague. it does get frustrating. but you just release and run back. you get travel powers at lvl1 so getting back is usually really fast. the game is FILLED with tons of people so your normally not the only one of your kind in an area. usually the a hole ganking ends up getting ganked themselves.

I picked up the PS3 version on a whim the other day. I will say, for a guy that has been burned out and completely disappointed with each MMO release, I'm actually enjoying DCUO WAY more than I thought I did. Really, it doesn't do all that much different and maybe I just enjoy playing on my couch and with a controller but I'm hooked on this game for the time being. It's casual enough and has just enough of a hook to keep me interested.
Now I wish Sony would fix voice chat on the PS3 already. *grumble*

I love this game on PS3 & I've been playing anything but MMOs for 6 months as I feel burnt out on them.
