If you've been following the long and indie road of Quest Online's Alganon, you'd know that development has picked up over the last several months. PvP was released in a recent patch, despite warnings that it might not fit into a game that was meant solely for PvE. Well, PvP fans can rejoice as a "PvP phase III" will be rolling out soon. This means that players will be able to interact with towers while murdering each other. "Capturing all three Towers in a particular area provides a benefit to your entire faction while adventuring and defending that zone," stated a recent blog post.
Concerns for adding PvP were always high. At one point, Derek Smart even told the team that, "I think this would be asking for trouble because we would have the PvP players in a world primarily designed for PvE. It could be a can of worms that I'm not sure we want to deal with." However, according to the official blog, PvP has gone off pretty well.
New character models are coming, as well. The much-anticipated addition will be rolled out in the "early part of this year" according to the latest entry. While the before and after shots could be more dramatic -- something Smart admits in the blog -- he goes on to honestly explain the thinking behind the development process.
You can check the official blog out here, and find out more information about Alganon on their main site.

So it goes from a small ugly guy to a big ugly guy with a beard? Big deal!

I think that is a good improvement over the current. It did feel odd and looking that ugly in a beautiful environment. Derek I hope you will improve the character animations as well.
Will probably revisit the game once the semester is over.

@ Grendel LMAO!
Acutally it is even sillier than that, it is really the SAME character model, not really bigger. The image on the right is a closer shot making the character look bigger but it really isn't. Loo kat the floor and tell me it is not just a trick of camera rotation and a bit of tighter zoom.
What we have here is mostly the same character model with a beard, different hair and a different texture slapped on it...and maybe a bit bigger. Oh yeah, the neck looks different. I hope they did't work too long on these oh so new character models because it looks like they spent a wekend updating them.

@Ryukan He addresses how much the character were improved -- or not improved -- on the blog I linked to. QOL is not claiming that they are finished with them, at all. Actually, the opposite.
The larger versions are on the blog as well, I cropped these two together and might have made it too dramatic.

@Beau Hindman
Beau you may have made the effect more dramatic by putting them even closer than they are on the DevBlog.
BUT, the camera trick referenced is in the original Dev Blog pics. The "new" model is obviously zoomed. The changes in the floor are obvious.

Does this help with the scaling issue? Maybe Cryptic can take note of this...

These models are 100% all new; not any revisions to pre-existing models.
Art direction is very important in games such as this in that you can't go overboard once you already have pre-existing look 'n feel. For that reason, the new models have to "fit" within the look and feel of the game.

@Old Tom I think most sensible people would be willing to actually try it out in-game before passing final judgement. But hey don't let logic stop you from RAWRing or anything.

Tried this game few days ago.. It's so bad.
I'm not care about graphic at all. Gameplay is boring.

Well, if you are actually looking at both the old and new, then saying that they're not "improved", then you must be looking at it from a pair of foggy and biased pairt of lenses. Regardless, that is your opinion and that's fine.
While they may not be spectacular, they're just fine and certainly better than the original ones created for the game so many years ago. But as they say, to each his own.
