So don't play DCUO or CO-F2P and we'll give you free stuff? Very smart.

@Yellowdancer That's not really what was said, considering that you can play and pay for all three games. :p

Vanguard set pieces as far as I remember are pretty cool. Good move, provided that it does not cost them a dime, since they are already in the game, just they need some grind to get.

I love City of Heroes. It was my second MMO and the one I've been subscribed to the longest.

But I hate these cheesy subscription rewards.

I'll subscribe to a game if the game is rewarding, not for silly trinkets like this.

Pity, though, that it's mostly stuff we already can get in-game. :/ Oh, well. At least it means future Vanguard Merits can go towards the extra storage, temp powers, and the Incarnate component.

The last time they had a 'stay subscribed' program it spanned a content drought in the long gap between two issues prior to Going Rogue. IIRC, it was the longest time between releases that CoH ever had. They were basically saying: Yeah, I know we've got nothing new, but keep your sub and we'll let you in the Going Rogue "beta".

Given the recent announcement of "Issue 19.5", I suspect this means that Issue 20 will be later than expected (some time after April 28) and that the devs think 19.5 doesn't have enough new shiny on it's own to hold people's attention in that period from now until then.

Of course, it could also mean exactly what it says at face value. :p

@CitizenH That's pretty much my thought. Resubscribe to the tune of an extra $45, even though there really isn't much of anything to do that I'm not already bored with after 66 months subscribed, to get out of having to grind hours' worth of Rikti mothership raids to unlock the Vanguard uniform. I'm almost tempted, but no more often than CoH ships new content, I probably shouldn't bother.

From a completely outside perspective, it seems like all CoX releases are costume/emote packages. I guess after players can make their own content with the Architect system, the developers don't see a need to produce any themselves. Again, purely an outside perspective, posting my observance of the game.

I dropped CoH just after i19. I am rather amazed that a game that is 7 years old just keeps adding the same old crap in a slightly new wrapper. Maybe these idiots at Paragon should look at making the game less of a grind? Instead they dangle these carrots in our faces so we will stick around.

Well Paragon, here's some advice: after 7 years CoH should be a unique adventure from levels 1-50. it isn't. It is often a grind. This game has some great parts but the devs just keep missing the mark.

Going from 1-20 in Praetoria has become a grind. It is not fun. All of these great new missions are just like the old ones. Sure, they have some new twists but they are, pretty much, the same old crap.

The game also has so many zones that it has become very tough to team. Players are all over. The game does not have a dedicated teaming communicator that is too great so teaming isn't abundant.

Level 20-35 is just a pain on the hero side and is only a bit better on the red side. Repetitive missions and arcs or some very poorly done TFs/Sfs are just too common. Levels 35+ get better and the game gets a bit more fun there too.

Sadly, the devs seem out of touch and don't really care what the community tends to think. They just keep adding missions that are just the same old ones and the only change is the story and dialogue. One day these idiots will realize we are playing a game and not reading a book; this is a visual medium. The game is a grind because it is REPETITIVE!!!

Anyway, no thanks to this little promo. I am sure I will be back one day but you guys aren't scamming anymore money from me for these lame rewards.

You've actually played COH?

COH has always had one of the best looking-for-team systems in the MMO world. It doesn't matter what zone you or anyone else is in - unless you specifically filter for it. And given how quickly players can move between zones, you'd usually be a fool to do that.

Yup. I played CoH. A lot of CoH. The LFT function is decent but teaming is not so smooth. Add to that, numerous zones and teaming becomes a struggle. Also, there are just too many zones - many of them are rarely used.

@Superfan

If your main complaint is repetitiveness, why play MMOs at all? That's what they all are. If you can't stand the grind, get out of the kitchen.

The devs do care what the community thinks, and are in constant communication via the forums. You're the one that seems to be out of touch.

I don't see how you could call CoH's LFT system not too great or even only decent. It works perfectly. Most MMOs don't even have a looking for team system and CoH has had a great one for years.

The only reason you should have problems finding a team is if you're playing on one of the less populated servers or are playing at a time when everyone else is asleep.

"Add to that, numerous zones and teaming becomes a struggle."

How do numerous zones making teaming a struggle? Unless you're one of those masochists who don't take a travel power, zones shouldn't affect your ability to join a group or recruit other players.

@DancingCow I disagree, the LFT features of the game are so poor most people don't even bother and just send tells or use broadcast to request teams or teammates instead. Maybe it's more than other MMOs give and maybe it isn't, but it's still a very poor system.

Fortunately there's a whole new teaming system coming with either I19.5 or I20.

Sweet. More vanguard merits for incarnate shards and salvage space instead of spent on costumes! Not to mention, level 1 Vanguard soldier characters with proper costumes and shiny shiny weapons. Those seven stars emotes look cool too.

Nothing wrong with loyalty or stay constant rewards. That's what promos do. Tempt you to stay subscribed. It's only two months anyhow. Big deal. I held on to an LOTRO sub for 3 months to get Siege of Mirkwood free.

I'm in the bored with the game stage atm so I will have to pass on this perk. Not enticing enough to pay for multiple months. I'd rather wait a few months, saving sub price, return when I feel like playing. They will probably put the emote pack up for sale eventually anyways,

Speaking as a 6-year Vet, I'm disappointed.
More costume pieces from an NPC group that has been in-game for years. An AT emote which (personally) I feel I would hardly ever use, a badge and a chest emblem.

If this is the incentive to bot celebrate the lead up to 7 years and (coincidentally) take the edge off the interest in the CO F2P launch, I'm afraid a lot of players will not be tempted.

Paragon studios needs to get on an design some global zones like the community is consistantly asking for - not just more cityscapes for the 6th year running.
At the moment the CO enviromental team kicks CoH's all up and down the block and then some for interesting diverse enviroments to adventure in.

I resubbed just after Going Rogue (after a year's absence) and I had about a month of nostalgia fueled "why did I ever leave" feelings.

And then it got dull again.

I'm actually enjoying Champions more these days than COH. Subs just lapsed again and this isn't making me regret that decision.

I had 5 good years with COH. I'll always remember it fondly, but I've got other things to play now.

I think Champions is a horrid game but to each their own.

CoH really should have many more unique experiences than it has. Unfortunately they went with the quick, cheap and easy fix; add more of the same stuff and call it a new arc or TF.

Most of the old TFs are just like doing regular missions. They are just strung together and offer a reward. The old TFs/SFs are just boring as all hell to play but people tend to do it anyway for rewards etc. Actually, most of the TFs do not offer unique game play - it speeds up the burn out.

I was told DCUO offered unique maps and monthly updates? Is this true? I am thinking that might be enough for me to finally leave CoH for good. I will only pay for 1 MMO at a time.
